I thought some Cool Runnings fans might want to help out the Jamaican Bobsled team.

From Sport Illustrated -

Olympic organizers said Saturday that Jamaica has qualified for the two-man competition at next month's Sochi Games, though it remains unclear if the fledgling squad will get a chance to race. Funding is a serious problem and sled driver Winston Watts told The Associated Press on Saturday that he's trying to raise as much as $80,000 in the next couple weeks to cover travel and equipment costs.

"Right now," Watts said, "we're at zero."

Stokes said that while travel funds are secure, “there are very real cost considerations.” The team still must pay for training camp and other equipment costs, he said, and they are in contact with both the Crowdtilt and Indiegogo campaigns."

Dogecoin raised about $33,000 for the team.

I so agree. What a cool story.

One of the girls that went to UoI with my DD (didn't know her, 35,000 students) is going to the Olympics as a Bobsledder. She had an amazing student life as a track star and wasn't involved in bobsledding until college at some point. We have seen now what a tremendous all around athlete she is. I've always enjoyed bobsledding now having a connection and watching the Jamaican team will add more fun spectating.

N. IL also has a 17 year old speed skater going, his over the moon excitement is addicting. I'm gearing up for the Olympics. Last summer Olympics one of my BFF daughter went as a rower. It was fun getting up at 3am to watch her and her rowing mate.
