Pre-Trip The "It Was All Started by a Coaster" October Extravaganza

Hellllllo humans! Me again, back from the (proverbial) dead. Since the last time I started my (unfinished) trip report, a lot has happened! I was a management intern in the Merchandise shop at Pop Century from January - June of 2018!

I moved back to Sweet Home Alabama after completing this because, well, I missed my mom. I started working at a travel agency here (not Disney specialized, however I am the "Disney guru" of my office.) Since moving home we've taken three Disney trips! The first was in December of 2019 for my birthday and as a pre-wedding treat for my future sister-in-law. (I was also recovering from taking a tumble, face first, down a driveway the weekend before. I was concussed and bruised, but NOTHING was standing between me and the Christmas Party!) Our room at DAK lodge caught on fire (I wish I was joking) and I don't remember half of this trip due to the aforementioned injuries, but the pictures look like fun!

Then, my mom and I returned in April. We upgraded to AP's and I watched Auburn lose the basketball championship on this trip. I shamelessly shed a few tears at the Pop Century pool bar.

THEN in July, we went on a trip of epic proportions (even for us.) Me, my mom, my stepdad, my stepbrother, and my sister-in law, all on vacation together for a week. This was the first time that we had EVER gone on a family vacation, and in hindsight, I regret not writing a TR for that one because boy was it a TRIP! I passed out in the queue for FOLK and we all locked ourselves out of our room simultaneously at one point. We are never dramaless. Ever.

After July, my mom and I had decided that we'd had a good run and a long year full of trips. We were going to take a nice long break from Disney. Neither of us are Star Wars fans, so Batuu didn't intrigue us. My brother and mom are both teachers, so their schedules didn't allow for much wiggle room. Working for a travel agency gives me travel perks to open up my range of travel. We decided we needed to explore other options. Until they released the passholder coasters. I'm a sucker for a good passholder "freebie." I wish I could say that Batuu or MNSSHP were my initial draw to this trip, but, truly, it was all started by a coaster.

Enough with the backstory! Let's get into the trip!

When: October 8 - 11. My mom will be on fall break and my stepdad was able to work his days off around so that it worked out for all of us!
Where: Saratoga Springs. This is a brand new one for us! One of my best friends works there and we got a great passholder rate on a 1-Bedroom Villa
Who:
Me - Mary. Ex Cast Member times two, travel agency employee by day, professional Pirates photopass picture ruiner by night. (Someday I'll make a collage of me every time this picture is taken. I look like I would rather be ANYWHERE but in that boat. Every. Single. Time.)

My Mom - Ramona. My partner in crime in both Disney and life.

My Stepdad- Gary. He just married into this madness.

I spent the greater part of my day today at work reworking this trip to make it "logistically" make sense.

Tuesday
We are flying out of Atlanta early that morning and should be on property by about noon. Mom and I are planning on leaving Gary at Saratoga and running to Epcot to get our first "scan in" for the coaster set, as well as hitting MouseGear to sneak in some Passholder merch before G sees how much we plan on spending on merch this trip. ;) From there, we plan on heading back to Saratoga and relaxing before an early dinner at The Turf Club (another new one for me! Being a travel advisor has really pushed me to try to get EVERYTHING at Disney done as research for work) followed by an early bedtime.

Wednesday
We have big aspirations to hit EXTRA Extra Magic Hours at DHS to see Batuu this morning. G has vertigo, my mom can't really do motion simulators and has no interest in Star Wars, and I have a crippling fear of doing anything on my own. (Just kidding, but I do want to wait to ride Smuggler's Run for the first time with my brother and sister-in-law. I really do love them.) From there we plan on heading over to Epcot and grabbing breakfast at Sunshine Seasons before taking the morning to take our time in the Epcot we know and love. My stepdad is big into just "looking" at things, so we're planning on making this a heavy Food & Wine and World Showcase day with a nice midday break after that 5 AM wake-up. I've got my list of Food and Wine booths to hit and I am ready to go! We have an early Via Napoli dinner reservation and then a few later night FastPasses at MK, just in case.

Thursday
Once again, we're starting at Epcot for scan three of four toward our coaster set. We're planning on sleeping in a bit before heading to hit some of our favorite attractions (currently only have Spaceship Earth and Figgy FastPasses) and lunch at Biergarten. We're from the foothills of the Appalachians, so German food has inspired a lot of our family cooking. My mom loves the "oompah loompah band" (her words, not mine) I also really love beer. It's a win-win. From there, we're planning on taking a pre-Halloween Party nap. We have the party that night and I must say, for last-minute costumes, I'm pretty excited! MNSSHP is our FAVORITE party that Disney does, followed very closely by Villians After Hours. Boo to You is my favorite parade that Disney has ever done. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I have a Haunted Mansion WALL in my office. I love anything spooky. Our last party was in 2015 (my various stints of employment with Disney always fell weirdly with going to fall parties and years that I wasn't working for them I was in retail that blocked requested off days after October 1st) and to be honest we were... disappointed. It was hot, it was miserably crowded, and it just wasn't quite as "magical" as we had remembered. The Christmas party last year was a different story, so we've decided to go back to our favorite party to see if it has made the turn around as well!

Friday
I nabbed Kona Cafe breakfast reservations at 9:40 this morning. I really hope we're up and moving by then... Nonetheless, we have a bit more Magic Kingdom planned after breakfast, followed by a late lunch at The Plaza. From there, we'll go scan into Epcot the fourth time and pick up our coaster set. Our tragical express won't be picking us up until roughly 5:30 for our trip back to MCO (and our SUPER late flight back into Atlanta... and then 2-hour drive home... please, keep all of our sanity in your thoughts during that trying time.)
