The importance of Use Year?

I probably could dig this info. up myself but I'm a little lazy today. Can someone explain to me how important the use year is? I've been looking at some potential resales and I've wondered if Use Year can impact availability. If it does, are some Use Year points more valuable than others?

Your Use Year affects when you can bank and borrow vacation points, and sets the deadline for certain vacation decisions. Most people should probably select a UY that starts immediately prior to the time they typically take a vacation.

Use Year month has nothing to do with when you can travel or even make a reservation at a DVC resort. You can always reserve 11 months ahead of travel for your home resort. The reservation date determines which Use Year the points are deducted from.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. How important is it to book 11 months out? Do people have trouble getting into resorts other than their home resorts even if they attempt to book seven months out?

It depends upon the time of year and the resort and accomodation you are trying to book.

Certainly, in recent years, it has become a bit more difficult to book certain smaller resorts (VWL and BCV, for example) at the 7-mo window.

The only time you really need to pay attention to use year when buying is when adding on to an existing contract.

If you have two seperate months, you may find youself waiting for the second set of points to "come in" .
