The story behind the Dolphin resort is that it's supposed to be a volcanic island sprung from the ocean. The ancient world 'dolphins' ride the crest of the wave. The wave splashed and crested a short distance away and when two swans alighted on the wave, the were struck by the sight and turned to stone. There are waves painted along the Swan resort. And the Dolphin has a tropical jungle painted on it.
From the heart of the Dolphin-Island flows water that cascades down a scalloped waterfall. That heart is a plain big black box (and was never planned to be a monorail stop).
The architect hoped Disney would use his swan and dolphin as characters, but that never happened. So, how about we bring a character to the Swolphin. The heart of a mountain... does it ring a bell?
