The Haunted Mansion Ride at Magic Kingdom

I heard about a year ago from a Disney CM that the Haunted Mansion at the Magic Kingdom would be changed to the Nightmare Before Christmas theme for the holidays. It was supposed to debut last month by what he said. Has this already taken place or was the idea scrapped?? I am just trying to find out if the ride is changed... thanks :slurp:

This has been a persistant rumor over the past several years. From what I know it is all set to go it just needs budgetary approval. It looks most likely to happen in 04 or 05 as a tie in to Disneylands 50th Celebration.

As OnWithTheShow said, it really has been a case of over the last few years "coming this year", and it never actually happens. So while I would like to think it will happen in 2004, I wouldnt hold out too much hope yet.

Many people have been confident for 2004, but things change in a snap (just like the rumor the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown was coming; every year, the Cast Members hold their breath). However, NBC actually has a pretty decent chance.

Cross your fingers!

So wait, will it be themed from the outside of "The Nightime before Christmas", or will they change the inside of ride. If will that be a permanent change?

The rumor states that the Haunted Mansion will be morphed into the Haunted Mansion Holiday, starring the Nightmare Before Christmas Cast. It has been playing from October-December at Disneyland for the past few years and has been wildly popular.

I would hope it wouldn't be permanent. ;)

Yea I know, So basically they would get the entire ride, for only about 3 monthes, and then put in the original back up? That would be hard to do.

We rode it many times last Christmas at DisneyLand, and I for one hope they bring it to MK ASAP! It is an amazing transformation and you have to ride multiple times as you always see something new. The inside and outside are completely re-done as if the cast from NBC took over the HM for the holidays.

My whole family was blown away. I can't say enough about how wonderful a job they do on it.

The ride shuts down for a week or two in September and than in early January to convert it to NBC and than back to the normal mansion.

Tokyo Disneyland just got the Small World Holiday changeover this year. Small World Holiday is the incredibly popular ride that started the whole "Holiday Makeover" craze when it opened at Disneyland during the Christmas of 1997.

So six years had to pass before another Park besides Disneyland got a Holiday makeover. Haunted Mansion Holiday opened at Disneyland in October, 2001, and this is only the third year it's been done at Disneyland.

My point? It looks like it takes at least several years before one of the wildly succesful Holiday makeover's from Disneyland is attempted at another Park.

It's bad enough I walk around the park singing IaSW all day after my kids make me ride it, but after riding the holiday one I was singing half IaSW and half Jingle Bells...

The only way I can get IaSW out of my head is to ride SM, and than I walk around all day singing Zippity Doo Dah. ;)

So if this "wildly popular" show comes to MK in 2004, it would be installed around October, right? When does it leave? Because I'll be going on my honeymoon in January 2005 and I sure as heck don't wanna see THAT, not to mention it'll be my girlfriend's first time at WDW and I want her to see the REAL Haunted Mansion.

It depends on when your honeymoon in January is. Check the rehab schedule for HM over on the DLR website and see when it shuts down to be converted back (I think the 2nd week in January). And there has been no official word that it'll be at WDW ever. (but, if they're smart they'll do it, it was wonderful)

Well, that's when I'll be there, but I *think* we'd be able to see the real one.

Now, as fo it being "wonderful", I'm sorry, but it can only be wonderful for those who actually like Nightmare Before Christmas. I mean, you can appreciate the work put in to completely change the attraction, but if you don't care for the movie at all, like me, it must be incredibly boring and pointless.
