The Frustrations of Being on the Outside

Can I just express how frustrating it is to try to get into the Disney orbit when you're geographically removed from Orlando or LA? I have been trying for over a year to broach a entry into world of Disney to start a relationship or get a better idea of how I can best position myself for a role in their corporate or parks public relations/public affairs offices. I've had meetings with some retired Disney folks (corporate attorneys, etc...) but nothing has materialized. I've applied multiple times through the Disney Careers site, but each time, nothing.

I don't want to go into too many personal details, but I'm not approaching this as a new entry into the workforce. I have 15 years public and private sector public relations experience from congressional staff to VP at a firm. I'm also in DC - not an easy media market to work with. Unfortunately, none of this translates into any interest by Disney.

Does anyone have suggestions or thoughts on what I could do? I do know that someone is bound to say "move to FL or CA." Unfortunately, that can't happen on a whim and finding a position with a salary to replace what I make would be an effort all its own. Welcome your thoughts.

Keep trying, that's all I can say.

However, as a professional who's been on the inside, one thing I can tell you: the grass is not always greener.

I enjoy Disney now much more as an annual passholder than I ever did inside the company.

Oh I know it's not all great. I work for Congress - trust me - it's not all great. I have no illusions of magic or pixie dust. The Disney Company is a company and profit is what matters. I have no issues helping with that.
