Heading for the great escape.
Didnt i see something recently that claimed that not too many hundreds of years ago that Antartica was actually a green and fertile area and just froze up over the last 600 or so years?

Not too sure about that, but antartica has a full fossil record, with dinosaurs etc. It was attached to australia until not so long ago. (Couple of million years, not long in geological time.)

it wouldn't surprise me at all if this was the case.

And thats what were even more overdue for more than an ice age.
