The dreaded turkey legs

I've heard so many stories about the gigantic "turkey legs". Every time I see someone there eating that beast leg, I think "..why would they eat that?!" You actually get your full serving of calories for a day eating that. That's right. The beast turkey legs are over 2000 calories a drumstick!
Now, I have never tried one. I saw them when I was younger, and they didn't look too appealing to me. And since I am now a vegetarian (September will be a full year of no meat), I will never ever try one.

Ever had one? What are your thoughts on those giant drumsticks?

Spoken like someone who has never tried one. ;-)

They're delicious, and a treat. I wouldn't eat one every day, but it's definitely something I partake in once a trip.

Riiight, how many people are counting calories on a WDW trip? They are kind of a pain to eat, but I will say WDW has the tastiest.

I will never eat one but I do enjoy watching others eat them. I am pretty sure one's IQ goes down while eating them since they become cave man like and have trouble speaking.

Watching others eat them is pretty amusing. "How am I going to eat this?" *noms like a caveman* I see little kids trying to eat one of them sometimes..why?!

I like them, but in moderation. They don't need to be that big. They have a strong flavor so aside from the caloric factor, they also do wear out your taste buds. After a while it's just enough.

I do understand how some people don't like them - they are smoky. Case in point I made ribs a few weeks back - 5 hours over applewood in the side firebox smoker. I thought they were great, my wife, not so much (Her exact quote was "How do you ruin ribs? These don't taste like ribs, they taste like ham wrapped in bacon on a stick."

The turkey legs do have a very hammy flavor to them - sort of like turkey bacon.

Used to eat them before I too stopped eating meat. I think a few things. First off, size. People are often attracted to larger food portions. Look at how much success McD's had with super sized drinks. Second, perceived value. For the size of the turkey leg, they aren't very expensive. Many people forget that when you account for the bone, tendons, gristle, etc you end up with alot less food. Third, spectacle. People like to be noticed. Walking down Main Street with a massive chunk of meat in hand does draw some stares. People don't think twice about someone eating a hot dog or ice cream, but turkey legs are things that are often saved for theme parks and carnivals, so not an every day sight.
