The Disney Analysis

Greetings! Since April, I've been gaining a new type of interest in Disney, and it's mainly Walt's visions and ambition. So, I have put together this little thread here to analyze what the parks/shows/Mr. Disney is saying behind the entertainment.

First off, the quote "Let's never lose sight of one thing, that it was all started by a mouse." I've seen this quote everywhere on the forums...but I'm wondering. What do you think about it? Is he talking about Mickey or something else? I have my ideas, but I would rather hear some public imput before I post it.

I hope to hear from y'all! :)

In my opinion he is talking about how everything started. That no matter how Disney grows, everything began through that mouse. Mickey was what saved his whole business, and he doesn't want us to forget that.

I agree with you on that, for the literal meaning. But does anyone have any thoughts about anything underlying in the message? For example, take a look at my signature. Things meaning more than what's said. I may be wrong with what I am thinking, but it's always fun. Thanks for your imput, Insider! :)

You can analyze it however you want, but I don't think that there is really any underlying meaning to that quote.

My favorite quote is the one i use as my profile. I think that it means that we should not loose sight of the little things. The Disney Company is a multi billion doller corperation with a multitude of theme parks and investors and with more people working for them then most other corperations. But go back to the beginning, as all good tales have a beginning, and take a look at the small switch that set it all in motion, a mouse. A man drew a mouse. It goes to show that all of our everyday little things could in some way turn into a big thing. For instance someone could write a post or a thread that inspires someone to get more interested in that topic. Maybe that little post just inspired the next Walt Disney, ok, maybe not Walt, but the next Micheal Eisner, only better. It's the small things that are important, not the big things.

I was kinda thinking what you're saying: the greatest things come out of anything, even a small mouse. This creates inspiration that is at the heart of all creation! Oh boy...connections!

Any other ideas?

The ironic thing is, it didn't start with a mouse.

It started with a rabbit.

Unfortunately, this phase has become the "where's the beef" catch phrase for everything Disney. Throw it out there, and people will cozy up to the nostalgia. I gag everytime Eisner says it.

Actually, it started with the Universe. :D

That's why I decided to analyze this quote; the idea of mouse...and the personal touch...is what Walt wanted to say, I think.

Hey everyone,

When it comes to the quote: "I hope we never lose sight of one thing, that it was all started by a mouse." I believe that there is a little underlying meaning that Walt meant by it. Basically, I believe, he wanted to give hope to those that followed him or were thinking like him, but just didn't know it yet. Also, the fact that it started with a mouse kind of, in my opinion, says that it all starts with hard work, determination, and a little bit of fun. Letting yourself go creatively is the greatest feeling one can accomplish. Despite whether people follow you in the beginning, they may end up doing so in the end.

Now that I've said that, I do not, however, think that Walt sat up thinking about all this the night before he said this famous quote. More likely, the quote is a product of his general attitude towards things. When it was first said was on a Wonderful World of Color show one sunday night and therefore went through the scriptwriters prior to Walt even saying it. In essence, I think that they were going for Walt embodying Walt's philosophy in 20 words or less.

Well those are just my thoughts.
Thanks,
Brian

It didn't start with a rabbit. The rabbit didn't provide the momentum (money) that allowed Walt to pursue his other ideas. The rabbit was a lesson that he probably needed to learn, but I think we should take it from Walt that it really started with the mouse.

I personally think the whole Disney organization is trying to start a religion and that's the underlying meaning. All we need to do is get all the Arabs to start worshipping Mickey instead of Muhammed and they'll gladly give us their oil to come to the new Mecca -- Disney World.

OK. Maybe not.

By the way, it's "input" -- not "imput."

He actually doesnt mean Mickey Mouse. He means the little mouse that he used to have in his office that he would feed @ nite when nobody else was around. Which he got his inspiration for Mickey from

And from what I've read, that rabbit helped him learn an important lesson in buissness as well. Make sure you own what you sell, or someone will steal it from you.

I wonder if he still owned the rabbit the quote would have been "...it all started with a rabbit." :D

At the time he said it, I'm sure there he didn't mean for it to be analyzed deeply. However, I think it can be taken as a metaphor for his life. Everyone says that Mickey was essentially Walt's alter ego. They were so similar. So, I guess you could take it to mean when he said "it all started with a mouse" that it all started with him. A little man from Missiouri. ;)

Hey,

I almost forgot that story donald, thanks for reminding me. There is a lot of evidence that he based Mickey from this mouse and then referred to Mickey in his quote, but in reality, he may have inspired the quote from that small office mouse.

Thanks again,
Brian
