With many Disney films taking the Live action route and considering that fantasy films have seen to be better visually..Would it make sense for them to make the entire Lloyd Alexanders Chronicles of Prydain book series?

I mean who would like to see an amazing looking Horned King with the visual technology we have now..

I've wondered if Disney, even in the Walt era, would have chosen to make some of their animated films as live-action if the technology like CGI had existed 'back in the day'. If you think of it, hand drawn animation and mechanical and film processing effects done in-camera or in editing/post-production were the equivalent then of all the computer made wizardry that we have today. I mean, there were 'effects animation' units at the studio back in the 30's and 40's. Are today's live-action/cgi heavy versions of animated classics what Walt would have made if he had access to the tools (story notwithstanding)? A live-action "Black Cauldron" would be similar in a lot of ways to the live-action LOTR and "Hobbit" films made with modern tech. Just wondering...

After the recent failures of Tomorrowland, John Carter of Mars, and the Lone Ranger, I would imagine that Disney is going to be very risk-adverse to any big budget sci-fi/fantasy movies not involving pirates, jedis, or superheroes for the next decade or so.

Disney already tried to get a young adult fantasy fiction ball rolling with the Chronicles of Narnia and gave up and sold the thing to Fox two films in.

Agreed and very sad. Loved the Narnia films!
