That awkward moment when...

Someone you work with asks the occasional visitor - who knew little about FP+, ADRs, MDE, etc. - for advice instead of asking the person in the office right next door who goes 5-7 times a year. And then has a horrible time because (1) daughter who bought tickets screwed up linking to MDE and (2) didn't make any FP+ selections. And spent a lot of unnecessary time at GS. When I inquired why they didn't ask the frequent flyer - me - response was "but Susie went last year" Well, honey, a lot has changed since last year. And they had such a miserable time, will not go again and bad mouths the Mouse House. Told you so....

I had someone ask at the grocery store where I got my purse (Harvey's Sleeping Beauty) and my response was. "I got it in Disneyland." She said, "You mean Disney WORLD." Which is usually a good assumption since we live on the east cost of Canada and people generally don't go to Disneyland from here.

I said, "No Disneyland is where I got it but I'm sure they have it in Disney World as well."

She said, "Ok, I hate to have to do this but it really bugs me when people are so uneducated but you were in Disney World...it's in Florida. DisneyLAND is in California. It's a common mistake by people that don't know better."

My reply: "Oh I know where Disney World is - I was there in January and a few weeks ago and 25 times before that AND I used to work there but I got this purse in DisneyLAND when I went to California in June but don't worry, it's a common mistake by people who really don't get out much."

I generally get to DisneyWORLD (couldn't resist) every other year. As a result I actually love sitting down with people and going through my tour guide wanna b talk. It gives me a little Disney fix between trips.

Anyone that knows me even a little would be telling the acquaintance they were talking to Miss Disney much like zurgandfriend's moles.

Being from Alabama originally, but having lived in Florida for more than 3 years, I've learned that for a lot of people back home (the northern Gulf Coast, New Orleans - Pensacola), "Orlando = Disney !" There is no such thing as Universal or SeaWorld. The city of Orlando was, at some point, unofficially re-named 'Disney.'

These tend to be the same people that refer to ALL soft drinks simply as 'coke,' and all video gaming consoles as 'Nintendo' (older than 40) or 'Playstation' (30-39 crowd).

I'm very specific about everything, so it moderately confuses me at times, but creates an awkward moment when I point out that they don't know what on earth they're talking about.

I feel bad because I don't want too seem snobby when I answer their questions or tell them my experiences. When in actuallity my 14 yr old daughter could be a tour guide...she has been going since 17 months and visits the parks alone sometimes when she wants to get away from her boring parents;)

Or if someones asks me how many times we've visited...I feel bad saying...'' well 3 times just last yr...but really all my life..'' I don't want to make others feel bad...soooo yeahhh...

LOL! I feel your pain. I love it when people give ME advice on WDW.

On the flipside, people that go to WDW and never ask you about anything at all. Of course, they might not realize you're a WDW guru. But it sucks if they talk about their trip and missed things or messed something up that you could've easily told them about, had they asked. I call this one, "I could have told you so!" :p

In my opinion it's actually the other way around. At some point in time Disney was renamed Orlando. When asked where they are going for vacation they will say Orlando (I know I do). Ironically WDW isn't even in Orlando. However, in support of your statement the two, Orlando and Disney World, are pretty much synonymous.
