With Thanksgiving just a week away, it's time again to pause and think about all that we're thankful for.

I'm thankful for

· God's grace and guidance in my life
· My husband, who is still my best friend and confidante after 30 years together
· My son and daughter and their spouses, who keep me grounded
· My real-life friends who share my geekiness
· My internet friends, old and new, who keep me entertained and lift my spirits
· Freedom and the men and women in our military who defend it

· Steve (@wdwmagic) and our mods for providing this awesome playground
· Warm and wonderful vacations in Florida

and I have to mention my cats, Thelma and Louise, since they are both staring at me as I type....

Very beautiful post, Nemo. (Though I did have to edit one thing in it.)

We really do have so much to be thankful for.

Good gracious, the list is sooo long so I'll just include a few things off the top of my head...
My wife of almost 25 years (Dec. 10th), our 3 kiddos, the rest of our extended family, my old job and position back (and just in time since oldest DD is gettin' married in Apr. - my Lord weddings are EXPENSIVE these days. ;)), and the fact that we're all healthy.
So much more, of course, but that was just off the cuff! :)

What a nice list, Nemo, and mine is similar. While i am single, I am very thankful for my extended family, and for my church family also. Like you, they keep me grounded.

Sometimes when I pray, I say thanks for the things that I forget, because I know I take so many things for granted. My mother was in the hospital earlier this week with chest pains, but they were able to adjust her medicine and run tests... The results were better than expected, and they sent her home. All she has to is get with her regular doctor later. We never know what tomorrow will bring.

Sometimes it is hard to be thankful in the hard times, but even those time help me understand the love, grace, and opportunities that I have every day. And I am glad that we have Thanksgiving as a reminder to stop for at least a little while and give thanks to God. I am a teacher of our youth group at church, and sometimes even preparing for the lessons actually help keep me grounded, too. I was reminded this week that the early settlers gave thanks even though they had experienced harsh times. They were thankful that they made it through, despite suffering losses.

If any of you are going through hard times, I hope this can be an inspiration to you. The holidays can be hard, especially if you have lost a loved one. But take courage: the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness shall not overcome it.

I know just what you mean Paul. Many of you know that my mother is in the mid to late stages of Alzheimers. She lives in Fl during the winter with my brother and his wife, then in the summers we bring her here to stay with us. It's a real challenge at times and can be quite frustrating to her and to us. But I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity and the means to do this for her. I truly am blessed.

The United States military, for giving us the luxury of complaining about bad hair days instead of someone being shot in the head.

My relatives, for being some of the nicest people on the planet (and specifically my cousin, for having the cutest baby alive today.)

My friends, who never fail me, in good times or bad.

Everyone here on this site for the entertainment, kindness and thought-provoking comments.

My dear friend Mandy, who was fun, kind, generous and good...and who lived and died with a quiet grace I could only pray to have. May heaven welcome her with endless amounts of dark chocolate and the ability to fly. I'm going to miss you so much, Mandy!

The doctors, nurses, drug companies and tech companies who allow our illnesses to be discovered and treated...and who take our pain away. God bless them all, and double for the nice ones.

My house and the great luck I have, being able to live in a nice, warm place. This is never so appreciated as when I'm in a cold place!

My cat, who is not only the best killer of lizards in Florida, but also very good at catching small rubber balls in mid-air and an excellent house mate.

Applebee's, for being open late so that I could eat something other than turkey...and going the extra mile on the "extra pickles" thing. :)
