before going to the MK on friday, I called the disney number on tuesday to confirm that CoP wasn't going to be open and timekeeper was. after being on hold several minutes, the lady came back and said CoP was going to be closed but time keper should be open. you can imagine my surprise while riding the people mover, my fiancee noticed the building was rotating. after getting off the people mover, we walked oveer there but did not see a line. I asked the castmember if it was open and he advised it was. i was completely shocked because of a. what the lady said and b. it was not mentioned on the map insert like timekeeper was. I'm not sure how long or even why it was open, but if you want to go, i have a feeling you better hurry.

Carousel of Progress is not on Times Guide because it does not have special operating hours. This is actually GREAT news. :D

Anyone who has the MK calendar know if it's going seasonal?

Intresting, the CoP was open on the 18th...rode it myself.

My wife, who unfortunately is not a WDWphile like myself, even stated it was sad to see the attraction in such sorry shape. The stained carpet, the musty smell in the theatre, and the overall feeling of impending doom aound the whole attraction......there were 22 (yes, I counted) people in the theatre including my party of 5........very sad:cry: . I will note however, when we were there, we never waited more than 5 mins on ANY attraction in any park(TT excluded, didn't ride though). Hopefully, the light attendance at CoP was indicitive of the overall park population that day (keeping fingers crossed).

What time did you visit?

It was between 4:30 and 5:30pm if I am not mistaken....I know late in the day because Wishes was at 7pm and we also saw SpectroMagic shortly after CoP.

Here is why your theatre only had 22 people:

1) Low crowd day (week before Thanksgiving); according to you, there were no major waits
2) Thursday, which is a low MK day anyway. The park closed at 7, according to the calendar, indicating there wouldn't be huge crowds.
3) If you saw the show at 5:30, most of the park was getting ready to see SpectroMagic, which was at 6 pm.
4) If all of the theaters only had 22 people, that means at a given point, there would be 132 people in the attraction at that time, assuming there were no variations. Usually, I've seen a light group, followed by a moderate, followed by a much larger group.

Gotcha.........I figured as much as far as the crowds and the parade goes, just wish a sprucing up of the attraction would occur. I agree 200% this is the one atraction at WDW that NEVER needs to be removed. Beyond Walts wishes, I believe it truely informs and entertains at the same time..my kids got a lot from it, espically my 8y/o daughter. She sings me the song!! (at least part of it).

Good for you and your family! :D Be sure to vote in the new CoP poll here in the WDW forums.

I saw CoP last week either Monday night or Tuesday night, can't remember now exactly, at about 7:30 pm. We had about 50 people in the theater. I actually didn't even notice it was open. My kids and I were leaving Space Mountain to get on the TTA, when my 16 yr old daughter noticed it was open. There were no crowds waiting for it. I don't think many noticed that it was open, because of denser crowds that were starting to fill the park about this time, since MK was open till midnight and the other parks were closing earlier. I would think that more crowds would mean more people, but actually Tomorrowland was so densly packed I don't think many people bothered to look over at the CoP to see if it was open. I could be wrong though.

I think so many people are used to CoP being closed that they don't even bother looking anymore. My youngest (10) always looks...she loves it and sings right along with the show.

I unfortunately smell a Horizons here. I remember toward the end, Disney did NOTHING to promote this attraction, so ridership suffered. That was one thing that lead to its demise. I PRAY this is wrong, and that Management will get the inkling that SOME effort must be made to promote this attraction if they want people to ride it. (Question then becomes if that is their intention at all...)

Don't forget, with Horizons, there was a guest safety factor with the building itself. I don't think that CoP is going to go anytime soon. When I was there last Wednesday, it was open park hours (9am to midnight), and I saw guests going into and out of the show each time. I've never been the only one in the show -ever-, and I think that any ridership more than zero is a good thing.

In the short-term, prospects seem pretty good. In the long-term, who knows? The best we can do is keep riding it whenever we go. I know I'll do my part. :-D

CoP is always open. :) I have never heard anything otherwise. Timekeeper however, is a different story. I don't hear much about it. I do know that it's opening again in december. When, I do not know.

I hate to throw this into the ring as it is off track...but...There hasn't ever been a legitimate confirmation of a "safety" issue with Horizons. I know there are many, many rumors from sinkhole, to building infrastructure, to ride system failure and on and on. That being said, I have yet to hear a legitimate explanation of what happened - and that goes all the way up to George McGinnis who played a key role in the design and construction of Horizons. George was also still around when Horizons met its end - walked through - cant confirm squat about a safety problem. My opinion....safety speaks, but money speaks louder. Anyway.....back on topic.....pardon the interuption.

This is true. . . and I'm looking up this Horizons mystery. Do a post search - there has been evidence from both sides on this one.
