Thank a Lifeguard

Next time you are at your local waterpark, or at Blizzard or Typhoon, take a moment to thank a lifeguard for their vital skills and sharp eyes.

Unsung vacation heroes. Take the lifeguard challenge. Watch these four videos and see if you can spot the drowning person before the lifeguard does. (it's not as easy as you may think!)

Also, please, if you know your kid isn't comfortable in the water, don't let them out there alone!

Swimming lessons are available all over, and aren't expensive...and it's a better life skill to be a strong swimmer (or at least not a panicked one) than it is to beat Modern Warfare III...not preachin...just sayin...

Anyhow, enjoy!

A sobering reminder!! It might surprise some people to find out how many parents let their kids swim, even if the kids aren't strong swimmers. The parents don't even watch them.

I've even seen adults just tire themselves out in the deep end of Typhoon Lagoon's wave pool.

Scary stuff. All the time.

God bless the lifeguards!

I can't believe when I see small children in the deep end of a wave pool. At Noah's Ark, the waves get taller than me down there, and I'm 6'3". At least put a flotation device on them.

And at Mt. Olympus there's a wave pool that has a wave 10ft tall (third largest in the world). While it's incredibly fun to jump head first into the wave and get knocked on your stomach, it's no place for children who can't swim well.

I'm an excellent swimmer. Passed all my lifeguard qualifications and i even have a hard time in Typhoon lagoon for 20 plus minutes treading water and playing around waiting for the big waves. I can just imagine how kids feel.
