I remember going to epcot in 1997 and 1998 and Test Tack was suppose to be open but because of problems they had with the ride it missed these opening dates and eventually opened in 1999.
Does anyone know what the problems were with Test Track?
Thanx in advance

The ride system software was very problamatic. They therefore had to replace the software with a new one with less bugs.
At least that is the main reason for the delay.

I heard from a friend that heard from a bus driver for Mears that talked to a ride op for Universal that had talked to his sisters friend that talked to a sweeper for MK that talked to a guy that heard from one of the Disney bus drivers that a car flew off the track while testing!!!!:ROFLOL:

Yeah it was the entire system both software and hardware that were giving problems. I went 2 times expecting to ride it! While I enjoy the attraction it is still not all that it was built up to be back in the day.

I know what you mean I remember going in 1996 and 1997 they was building the ride up as one the greatest ever.

There were two mitigating issues with Test Track in the 97-98 window that prevented a grand opening.... They were:

#1. Software bugs are extremely accraute, however it important to note that this was the first software of it's kind, as was/is prone to issues on various scales..

#2. Safety systems are both a good thing for TT, and the Bane of it's existance. Test track has more safety systems than any 5 rides in WDW combined, and a fault (safety check failure) in any of these systems results in a 101 that has to be cleared by engineering.. to delve further, some individuals considered the safety checks to be too stringent.. For example, if a ride vehicle was slightly out of specification, but within it's tolerances, it would still cause a safety faullt.. no , imagine having to battle that on 50 different levels simultaneously, and you get a LOT of downtime.. fixing these issues didn't make the ride less safe.. just less retentive on the safety front..

OH yeah... all of that, and the original mechanical issue with the system which lead to car #17 seperating from it's drive chassis on victory lane and smashing into the wall...

fun fun fun!

They had loads of problems. I even heard when they were still testing it that one of the cars came off the track.

One of the major problems with Test Track is that it couldn't be stopped in the short amount of space they originally planned in time.

That would complicate things further and they would have to shut down the entire system and then reboot it, which would take hours.

Good god, what antiquated system takes hours to boot up?
