Is anyone here a teacher in Florida? If so, have you taught in other states, and how does Florida compare?

TIA!!

I teach in a technical education center on the west coast.... the pay is ok.. sometimes the administration gets out of line.... our union is weak and is usually in bed with the administration.... starting teacher money is about 33k... schools start august 3 and we are out for the summer in mid may.... I love what i am doing and have a great time.....to get a feel for what kind of issues we have take a look in the public section of tuff-teach.com... this is a forum for teachers from one county much like this one....not as big.... best of luck... if you are science, special ed or upper math... they realllly want you.. see ya in the park.... if it is raining.. I willbe the guy with the yellow poncho with a Mickey on the back..................

General Griz is a teacher somewhere in the Orlando area, science I think. Perhaps you should send him a PM.

My sister teaches in Kissimmee. I believe she teaches 7th grade English. The pay isn't great (I believe its around 36K) but she makes great money in the after school program tutoring. Florida is a low pay "right to work" state and Unions are frowned upon. Our education system is or was below average and the funding for schools is ridiculously low. Our budgets really stink and we have some pretty serious problems with poverty/migrant people. In Florida old people run the government and they don't like funding for anything education based or actually anything not involving Social Security or Medicare!Just thought I'd share my opinion.
