Taxi from LAX to Disneyland

Trying to decide if we should take a taxi or Disneyland Express. We want to get there quicker since we're getting in later (9:15PM), but I don't want to risk getting stuck in traffic and paying a fortune. For 5 of us, I figure about $100 for Disneyland Express. If we opted for a cab at that time of night, any ballpark on how much we'd be looking at?

at least $115. I would go for the shuttle... predictable and going to be more comfortable.

LAX is very far from Disneyland. There are five major international airports in the LA Metro area, and LAX and Burbank Bob Hope International are the two farthest away from Disneyland.

John Wayne Orange County International is the closest airport, about a 20 minute/40 Dollar cab ride from Baggage Claim to the Disneyland Hotel. Long Beach Airport is the second closest, about a 25minute/50 Dollar cab ride. Uber rates are lower than cab fares from both airports.

Is it too late to change to a much more convenient airport? Or do you absolutely have to fly into LAX? LAX is consistently rated one of America's worst and most miserable airports for a reason. Transport between LAX and Disneyland is just one of those reasons.

No can do. Flying Virgin and the only airport they go into is LAX.

No desire to drive through L.A. Looked into it and it seems like Super Shuttle is the best bet. Disneyland Express, from what I could tell, has limited hours of operation anyways.

Contact one of the many towncar/limo services and they will provide you a flat rate from LAX>DLR so you won't need to worry about traffic. We did this the last time we were forced to go through LAX.

Oh. Well, at least you are flying a very good airline.

Just know that LAX is not a good first impression of SoCal (it wouldn't be a good first impression for a second-world country either, but at least it has a lot of flights). And in the future, an arrival at one of the fabulous airports actually in Orange County or much closer to Disneyland, like John Wayne or Long Beach, should be your first choice.

What about Uber? At 10PM you won't have much traffic delays, but it will still be a 45 minute drive from the LAX terminals to Disneyland Drive.

I believe Uber is barred from doing passenger pickup at airports. Not sure if that's still in effect.

I'm going to do a private van from Super Shuttle.

I have to admit, having never been to California, a part of me wanted to go to LAX on the off chance I might see a celebrity. Is the airport bad in terms of finding your way to baggage claim, shuttle car pick up?

We used SuperShuttle last year, and we are using them again this year. 45 minutes from LAX to Disneyland. No problem finding Shuttle. Inexpensive, efficient, no-frills transportation . Picked us up from the hotel on time for return flight home.

I dunno, I don't think it's that bad. I usually fly in and out of Terminals 5 & 6, and the only problems I ever have are when I have to fly on a week day morning. The traffic getting into the airport loop can be HELL.

LAX is just a giant, lumbering patchwork and it will take decades for them to make it a cohesive, flowing experience. SNA, LGB and BUR are preferable only because they're much smaller and easier to pop in and out of. There's very little popping in and out of LAX.

No, it's just ugly and utilitarian compared to more modern airport updates. Bad furniture, jet fumes in passenger areas, grey, etc. Just ugly and little to appreciate.

Where as John Wayne is fresher, less crowded, less 1984... and Long Beach is like flying was back in the 60s and 70s.

Well, I had the pleasure of spending the last few hours of my trip to California last spring in the international terminal of LAX - and I was very impressed!!! Definitely one of the nicest airport terminals I have ever experienced! So, not everything about LAX is bad. It still isn't as close to Disneyland as John Wayne though...

LAX isn't that bad. It's an airport. It acts like an airport. It's no SFO, but it's not terrible.

You should be fine with the DL Express, but don't expect to be THAT comfortable. It's just a bus, after all.

I believe the international terminal just finished a huge remodel not too long ago, so I suspect it would be quite nice. :)

LAX gets its ranking as America's worst airport because it's just... gross. It's old, dilapidated, ugly, worn out, grimy, outdated, cramped, dingy, gridlocked roadways and parking, etc.

The one exception is LAX's new International Terminal they built to handle the A380's; compared to the world's best airports it is finally acceptable, although not particularly stunning nor in the world's Top 10.

Traffic to LAX terminals and parking can be mind-numbingly gridlocked, which doesn't help the dingy, outdated facilities you eventually arrive at. It's 45 minutes to the Disneyland Hotel without traffic, 90 minutes with traffic.

John Wayne Airport is heaven compared to LAX, and about the size of an average airport in cities like Milwaukee, Salt Lake City, or Richmond. It's a bit bland in that too-tasteful Orange County way where everything is done in shades of beige and glossy marble, but it's Disneyland-clean, wonderfully managed and operated, and with every amenity a domestic traveler could want. Parking lots are 90 seconds away from a freeway on-ramp and its 20 minutes from baggage claim to the Disneyland Hotel.

Long Beach was also just remodeled a couple years ago. It's smaller than John Wayne, but more stylish. The planes are reached via air-stairs like in the 1960's, and the terminal is like an indoor-outdoor Boutique Hotel with wine bars and hip restaurants and conversation pits. It's JetBlue's west coast hub, and 25 minutes from baggage claim to the Disneyland Hotel.

Just things to consider on future SoCal visits. Locals try very hard to avoid LAX at all costs and use one of LA's four alternate domestic-service airports (although John Wayne also has flights to Mexico and Canada).

For us New Yorkers, LAX is our only option if we want to fly non-stop.

JetBlue actually has two non-stop flights per day from JFK to Long Beach Airport (a morning and an afternoon), and two back from Long Beach to JFK. JetBlue also offers one non-stop flight per day to/from JFK to Burbank Bob Hope International Airport, one of the other four optional LA area airports besides LAX.

United Airlines has four non-stop flights each day to/from Newark Liberty and John Wayne Orange County. ($336 round-trip over Presidents Day weekend!)

Obviously LAX has many more options, but daily non-stop transcontinental flights do exist to the easier airports much closer to Disneyland.
