Disney has officially announced that its long-planned stage musical version of "Tarzan" will come to Broadway next spring.
Shuler Hensley is in final negotiations to play a primate, a spokesperson for the actor confirmed. A spokesperson for the tuner</ABBR> had no comment on casting and said no formal offers had been made.
A theater and specific dates have yet to be named.
Cast size for the tuner, officially called "Disney Presents Tarzan," will be 34. There will be no out-of-town tryout, and a previously announced workshop for this summer will not take place. Phil Collins has written more songs to add to those he wrote for the 1999 animated film. David Henry Hwang has written the book. Bob Crowley will direct and design sets. Choreography is by Meryl Tankard, with flying and climbing design by Pichon Baldinu, who co-created and co-directed the Off Broadway acrobatic hit "De La Guarda." Natasha Katz will design lighting and John Shivers will design sound.
