Tangled Legacy

Now that Tangled is close to ending its theatrical run (it has opened in 90% of world markets) and will almost certainly pass 600 million worldwide putting it at around 12th all time for an animated movie. It is obvious this movie is a major success for Disney. My question is, what will be the legacy it leaves behind.

Will we ever see a Tangled based attraction? Will Rapunzel become a Disney Princess staple?

I for one loved Tangled, and I think history will be very kind to this movie. I think it will be kind of like Alladin in its legacy.

I hope so. It was a great movie. It seems to be hard to gain pecking order as far as princesses go. I would love to see little Rapunzel hand around for a while.

Personally I liked Princess and the the Frog better...I think because of the soundtrack. I would love to see both of them included in the "princess gang" more.

I don't think we will see an attraction though. I mean How many princesses have an attraction?

I think Princess and the Frog will have the Aladdin type legacy where it was good, but some people think not great. There is the bit of legacy and merchandise, but not much.

Tangled on the other hand I think will remain more popular. It was a great movie. I don't think it will be as popular as Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast, but still very popular.

I think as a movie it does compare well to Alladin, maybe even better. However, it didn't have those 1 or 2 songs that really stood out and make you think 'TANGLED!' when you hear them. Those songs keep a lot of the movies popular long after their theatrical/home movie runs.

I personally would love to see a new fireworks show that incorporates the "I See the Light" sequence from the movie with instrumental music and the new castle projectors making the lanterns. Not sure what else I'd really want besides a permanent meet and greet.

As for longevity I wouldn't guess, but I would hope that unlike Aladdin future sales figures for home video re-issues will hold up and meet expectations.

Your so right! My daughter is 22 and still listens to the Beauty and the Beast and Mermaid soundtracks. She does not listen to the Aladdin soundtrack and as a little girl she LOVED the movie. She went as Jasmine 2 years in row for Halloween.

Don't forget inflation of ticket sale prices and 3D charges. The movie was not nearly as successful as some may think.

For example, less attended than Lilo and Stitch and about and it cost 260 million to make.

Don't bother quoting the production costs. It is a waste of time. Also, it was not less attended then Lilo and Stitch. In the US, yes it was less attended, but not worldwide.

The movie is a huge success.

You lost all credibility with this term when you compared it to the legacy of Aladdin. Seriously. 212 million in 1992 is a lot more than anything near 196 million of 2010/11 with 3D as a huge part of its intake. The worldwide numbers are pretty comparable and still show how much further Aladdin was attended.

I dont think anything thats come out recently will ever be as popular as little mermaid, aladdin, beauty and the beast or any of the classic's from when walt was around. but i think tangled will be very popular! i saw some little girl walking around town a few weeks ago with the rapunzel hair they sell at the disney store haha.

i think in order for disney to reach that level of mass hysteria (haha) again, they need to bring the amazingness of tangled - but pack it with longer/better songs. i really think thats alot of the reasons these films live on in peoples memories, the music. I have to be completely honest....i havent seen beauty and the beast since i was probably 12 (im 29 now), but i feel like i just saw it yesterday and its fresh in my mind, mostly cause of the music, which i can sing 100% correctly at the drop of the dime, like most everyone who loves that movie, as well as others. tangled's music was great, but it wasnt 100% there just yet. just my opinion :)

(oh and also - yes she will be a successful princess!!! i love her! she reminds me of ariel for some reason.)

The problem with an attraction is that the most natural home for this to go would be fantasyland, and that's part way through a make over, where would an attraction beyond a meet and greet actually fit/go ?

Tangled was cute, but my 5 year-old niece is not clamouring for Rapunzel items quite like she does for Little Mermaid stuff. Obviously that's just my own personal example. I haven't really seen much of the long-haired princess since the movie first came out though... If I was going off my personal experience, I'd say that the movie was liked by the public but not memorable. I guess we'll see with DVD sales.

I hope the meet and greet stays for awhile-want to meet her this summer!
I really liked Tanglled, but I thought the music could have been better.

I personally thought they could do better. The only song that sticks out in my mind is the one from the bar, which I can't even name

I am a 23 year old female who still carries a Little Mermaid purse (from Hot Topic, not Disney haha) & I actually blast the old Disney songs in my car & will always go to Disney on Ice for the great music they have brought to us in the past. That is what I think makes a great Disney movie. How many movies do you hear the name of & just start singing? A bunch.

Do I think I will be showing my kids Tangled in 10 years? Probably not. Little Mermaid & Cinderella? You bet I will.

First, I didn't say it was more attended then Aladdin, I said it will have the about the same legacy in the parks as aladdin. This is a WDW discussion board, I thought it was obvious that is what I was driving at.

Tangled is Disney's first non Pixar hit in over a decade. I think it will get at least the same level of WDW presence as Aladdin.

Well that is not true. It is Disney's first non pixar animated hit in a while. I imagine that is what you mean but even then, I read you loud and clear earlier but even presence in the parks, don't see a comparison of Aladdin and Tangled there.

Aladdin has had its mark in parades, shows, rides and other forms of themed entertainment around worldrwide resorts. They even pumped out the parades as soon as the movie was a hit.

Not every movie that performs well is a sellable classic. Glad you liked the film but the comparison was off.

As a princess, Tiana sells more than Rapunzel.

Do people think Aladdin was "not great"?
