I got the Tamron 28-300 about 5 months ago and absolutely LOVE it! It rarely leaves my camera- I've never had a problem with it, but a friend got the same one, except with VR (I chose not to get that) and she said that her's has a problem "hunting" for focus.
Other than that, its a great little all-in-one lens and the one I'll be bringing with me next week to WDW!

I have the Tamron 28-300 VC for my D700 and the 18-270 for my D7000 -- they are both terrific lenses.

Tamron lenses, in general, are not fast, so yes, they DO fish in low light conditions, especially at focal ranges above 250....

That being said, they are also super-sharp, the VC works better than Nikon's VR, and they are great all-in-one lenses. I wouldn't hesitate to travel to WDW with either one as my only lens.

I'm looking at upgrading my D50 to the D7000 (although the D700 was in consideration for awhile as well) how do you like them?
My D50 is still in perfect working order, but I find the 5mp a bit of a hinderance, especially when I crop down an image (obviously), and I'd like to have an ISO that goes above 1600.
Thanks for any insight!

The D7000 is supurb -- get the D700 ONLY if you are looking at changing your lenses to full format lenses -- DX lenses do not work on the D700....

That being said -- the D7000 is now Nikon's top-of-the-libe quality DX camera, even beating the D300s in all the tests. It's light, it has great features, and I love it. I have barely used the D700 since I got it, since it works so well in low-light it makes lugging the D700 and the heavier lenses a chore.

Highly recommend the D7000. You will love it.

You said the two magical words-- "works great in low light" and "its light and has great features". The price seems to be right too--- for that amount of features, I'd think it'd be more expensive!

I also like how the D7000 has the focusing motor in the camera because so does my D50, and when I bought lenses for that, I got the cheaper ones that didn't have the motor, because a- I could, b- they're lighter and c-they're cheaper!

Thanks for your great review! I can read reviews online, but it's nice to hear it from a "real" person. Its also surprising that you like it better than the 700-- but I understand why!

can also attest to the D7000... has unreal high ISO capabilities with minimal noise. 100% View finder is also nice!

Ugh- I was at the Crayola Factory in PA with a friend and her kids today- the max ISO of 1600 that my camera goes to was totally holding me back! I'm so against using the flash, and even with an aperture of 3.5 (didn't feel like lugging around my 2.8 lens today), I have a feeling I'm going to have a lot of blurry (and with the ISO at 1600-- grainy) pictures. I need this 7000 more and more every day!

get one if you can find one... most online retailers are back ordered. my local shop got 10 delivered on a random Friday morning a 9 AM, I strolled in randomly because I needed a small break from the office around 11AM and I happened to get the last one.
