Talk to me about Miami

We were scheduled on the 5 day Castaway Cay double dip on the Fantasy next month, which has obviously been cancelled. We are now scheduled on the Dream next June, but it sails out of Miami instead of Port Canaveral. Hit me with all of the must see/do things in or near Miami for before and/or after the cruise. Also looking for good accommodations for 5 adult sized people. Thanks in advance!

I'm following this because I rebooked on the Dream out of Miami next year, too.

Sailed out of Miami a few years ago. We stayed at Holiday Inn Port of Miami and it served us well for the one day we were there. Walking distance to American Airlines Arena, Bayside Marketplace, and Bayfront Park. A quick taxi ride to the port.

We've done 2 DCL cruises out of Miami a number of years ago. 1st cruise we flew into Ft. Lauderdale because of airline choices, stayed in a hotel near the airport, then took a stretch limo to Miami for the 45 min drive the next day. The kids loved it. The 2nd cruise we flew into Miami and stayed at an Comfort Suites near the airport, it had free airport shuttles and I think free cruise terminal shuttles. It wasn't a great part of town, but it all worked.

Your choices for Miami hotels are if you want to stay in a great hotel on Miami Beach and pay the price, but you can enjoy the hotel and beach before or after the cruise, or if the hotel is just a place to sleep before your cruise. Next time I think we will do the Miami Beach option.

I've done a few cruises out of Miami, although not DCL. We like to stay at the Intercontinental, which is adjacent Bayfront Park

Key Biscayne and the lighthouse there is a nice diversion if you have a car and a few hours free. There's always South Beach, Little Havana, several good museums, the various sports stadiums, etc., if you have more time.

FLL is a more pleasant airport than MIA, I think, and sometimes cheaper to fly into.
