So we are flying to the sunshine state in August (my G.f's a School teacher) going 13th until the 30th, all i am reading is Negative write ups about this time of the year, having only even been in June and September i was wondering what i can expect during our time there at this time of year? :)

Thank you in Advance, and sorry if this has already been a discussion before.

We go every August at the same time. Summer crowds start to lighten up as you get into later August and school's start going back. It's hot as blaze but totally manageable and probably not too different than what you've experienced in September. You can also count on afternoon thunderstorms everyday. They typically pass quickly though.
Noticed your sig, funny we actually split our last August stay at BCV and BLT (our home). This August we'll be at GFV!!

When you first get there, it will probably be very crowded, but toward the end of August, it should lighten up.
The heat will be your worst enemy. It's hot in June, but it doesn't compare to August heat to me. Just do early mornings and late nights and you will be fine. Carry one of those little clip on water fans--not those big things Disney sells--the little round ones you can pick up at a Wal Mart. Just that little mist of water can be so refreshing and you aren't wetting everyone around you.
Since you'll have fp's, you can do the "go the opposite direction of everyone else" and get lots done by 11.
Actually, I would save my fp's for afternoon or evening if you plan to stay in the parks.

We go this time every year and always have a great time. Yes it is hot but you can plan your day around that. The first week and a half 13th - 22nd might be a little busier than the last week, I'm not sure when all the kids go back to school. The last two years we have gone there have been hurricaines but they haven't hit Florida directly. Alot of rain, but that didn't slow us down too much

I think if you've gone in June and enjoyed it, you'll be just a likely to enjoy August. I don't think there is a "bad" time to go to WDW (although, I wouldn't dare go with the Christmas crowds, but that's just me)?? I think it's good, though, to mentally prepare yourself for the crowds and heat. If you go in expecting these things, then they won't come as a negative surprise to you.

We're going in July this year, having previously gone in September and early May for the past 5 years. The crowds and weather are going to be a bit of a shock for us. But, it's WDW, so I'm confident that no matter what we'll have a great time :-) Enjoy your trip!!

i would say the entire thing depends on how you feel about sweat.
if you don't mind being so sweaty that you can't wipe the sweat off your brow because your hand, arm and clothes are also soaked you will be fine
no, i'm not being cute, that's the way it is
we have decided that it is worth it, we like late august because of the reduced crowds, and it is still "warm" enough to enjoy the water activities.
just start with the understanding that you will sweat all day, and the daily thunderstorms only increase the humidity, not cool you off
be prepared
we bought the frogg toggs cooling towels and used them a lot and also high powered misters that are packs with high powered/recharge them at night batteries and plan to be out of the parks at the height of the heat.
with all that you are still sweaty, but no complaining allowed because we know what we are choosing and accept the fact before we go that it is hot as hades.
don't be put off by the weather, accept it and move on anyway, we do

August is hot.... :arghh:
No matter what time in August you might be visiting, just know that the temperature will be in the mid eighties to nineties and that it will be extremely humid.

Crowds are generally lighter in August as opposed to June or July, but don't expect the parks to be empty. There's also the frequent Thunderstorms which tend to disperse the crowds. (Plus!!)

Overall, August is a busy month, it's extremely hot and humid, and it frequently rains (pours). Your trip can be amazing if you time and plan accordingly.

If you're definitely going in August, you might need to start getting your ADRs ready. Start making reservations now. August is moderately to extremely busy, so your dining options may be limited.

Another tip: respect the sun! Wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated. Escape the crowds and the sun by doing minor attractions in the afternoon (eg. Country Bears, POTC, Tiki Room, Monster's Inc, Stitch).

Finally, I strongly recommend that you arrive at the parks at rope drop (opening time) to take full advantage of the major attractions and headliners.

Good luck, and have a magical trip! :)

I'd definitely go in August again. Our last trip was August of 2010 and while it was hot and humid it wasn't much different than here in Wisconsin. Just relax, pace yourself, have some downtime swimming or whatever, drink lots of water and you'll have a great time! ;)

You can try to go early to the parks or really late and take advantage of EMH's. I was there in August 2012 and was hot, humid and rainy. Expect a daily rain during the afternoon or storms (that's what I had on my 2 visits during August). Parks will be maybe busy the first week of your stay, but absolutely manageable the 2nd and 3rd.

We went in August of 2011 (something like the 13th - 18th) and I was nervous about the crowds. It turns out I had nothing to be worried about. While Touring Plans predicted the parks to be level 7-9 crowds the whole time, it was nothing that bad. The most crowded times felt like a 4, if that, and there were many mornings where we felt like we had the parks to ourselves until nearly noon. I also love that the parks are open late over the summer, so you get more bang for your buck.

I know a lot of people will warn you about the heat, but I really didn't think it was all that bad. I found that wearing good walking sandals, covering your head, airy clothing, and hydration are very helpful. We lucked out with the rain too, but I'd definitely bring ponchos since it was clearly luck. I lived a couple hours north of Orlando for several years and downpours can be expected. Still, it shouldn't be enough to ruin your days...just be mindful of the lightning.

One Little Spark...
I go every year in August since 2010. You'll note a bit difference between early August and mid-late August. I think you chose good dates.

I wouldn't worry about it. If the parks are lowering hours (which they do around that time), that is reflection enough that they are getting less busy.

July and August take a lot of planning in terms of heat. However, I love the summer at disneyworld. My theory is it is like 100 degrees in my homestate I might as well be at disneyworld where I can have fun and soak up free air. Just make sure to drink plenty of water stay away from soda as much as you can. And wear light color clothes and comfy shoes. By the end of the month the crowds will decrease substantially and because you have 2 weeks - you will not be in a rush to do a lot of stuff.

I totally agree, it's hot and humid in Texas I might as well be at WDW and have a great pool to hang out by.
Anyways if you have been in June and September you have already dealt with the heat and humidity. I heard August crowds thin out a bit after the 10th.
We sometimes do some morning park hours when we go in the summer but usually we sleep in, run to character dining at 10 ish, come back go to the pool, then by 6 we are headed to a park for the evening and once the sun goes down it is tolerable to run from ride to ride. We generally get to bed around 1-2 am. We just kind of flip our days and nights. On the mornings we don't do character dining we sleep til noon...
We avoid HS during daylight hours completely because it feels like the hottest park where the air just doesn't move....

Good point. The summer at disney is great because the parks are open later and if your at a resort can use emh. the hottest point of the day seems to be noon to around 3/4. The daily rain comes between 2 and 5 and it cools down a lot though remains humid. A drop of rain then everyone leaves usually around early dinner time.

Is that you and your GF in your profile pic? Ridiculously adorable couple!!

I've never been in Aug but have avoided it due to warnings about the heat. If the crowds were better than Sept, I'd risk it, otherwise, I'd keep it to Sept :)

We go to WDW every summer. We have been in June, July, and Aug. In fact, we will be there the last week of July and the first week of August again this summer. We have never worried about the heat or crowds. The biggest downer can be the rain, but thats typical Florida in the summer. You shouldn't have anything to worry about. Have a great trip!

We usually go this time of year. As everyone has stated its hot, as in Tarzan, Africa hot, but the crowds are thinning out as schools in the Southern part of the US are back in session. In the North it's usually the first week in September.
