I thought the movie had major tone problems. Too much of the movie is ridiculously silly, but then you have some aspects — like Jane dealing with cancer and Christian Bale's creepy and dark villain character — that are played super seriously. Bale, while he gave a great performance, felt like he belonged in a completely different movie from everyone else in the cast. Imagine Joaquin Phoenix's Joker or Javier Bardem's character from No Country for Old Men appearing in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and being played super seriously. That's the level of tonal dissonance that Bale had with the rest of the film.Overall it felt more like a parody of a Thor movie than an actual Thor movie. What saved the movie was Jane Foster's character arc and a strong final 30 minutes. The movie ended on a high note that I think will make people forgive and forget the flaws that plagued the majority of the film.
