Basically the script. Stands for "Exterior: Space." In other words, still working on the script.
Not still working on it so much as about to start working on it - EXT. SPACE would be the establishing shot and probably the first two words of the script. :)

I'm just happy for the "it feels very me" part. :D So... Christmas Special meets Lego movie by way of Monty Python? :D

The film will aim for a December 2023 release, according to Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, meaning the project will be expected to start filming sometime this year. Taika Waititi’s Star Wars project now takes over the release date previously held by Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron had been delayed due to Jenkins’ schedule as she still had Wonder Woman 3 and Cleopatra on the horizon. Jenkins has since left the director’s chair of Cleopatra t to focus on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.

"Some had suggested that filming on Waititi’s movie would begin later this year, since Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had suggested his movie was further along than Patty Jenkins’ “Rogue Squadron” (which Disney still has penciled in for December 2023). If Disney is still trying to fill a slot next Christmas with a “Star Wars” project, it would presumably fall to Waititi’s still-unnamed project. As it turns out, not so much.

“Not this year,” Waititi said when we asked if he’d begin working on the project soon. He explained: “I’m going to be in New Zealand from August until the end of the year with ‘Our Flag Means Death’ and ‘Time Bandits’ and during that time I will still be writing. I’m still trying to figure out what the story is.”

If Waititi’s movie isn’t going to be ready in time for next Christmas and Jenkins’ movie is being “pushed off to the side for the moment” (in Kennedy’s words), then what will the next “Star Wars” movie even be? And when will it be? Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is working on a “Star Wars” project and director J.D. Dillard, whose World War II movie “Devotion” opens later this year, has been rumored to be working on a project, but those seem even further off than either Jenkins or Waititi’s movies."

Well I'd rather than not rush something through and take time to develop them properly. A good well received Star Wars movie is more important than a soon one that is rushed.

While Patty Jenkin's film wasn't as far along, she has dropped a project to devote all her time to her SW movie. So, I can see that being done in time, especially if the pre-vis team has already been working on the fight and high-CGI scenes in advance.

At this point I'm going to say Kennedy has no idea what's happening cinematically. They have no real plan outside of some one off films, and that's even questionable. It seems like they were hoping the high republic was going to garner more love. And really no one cared. So now they have no plan for what they should do for a new saga series of films.

Or they have a plan but just haven't told "us" yet as there have been no new announcements.

Maybe we'll hear more at D23? 🤷‍♂️

That's a possibility. Of course I thought that the last couple years. I think they are focused on TV and they are fine with that. I'm inclined to think that if they had a plan, celebration would have been the time to announce it, not at D23. I hope I'm wrong and they do announce something soon. But with Kennedys track record, I'll believe it when it's behind cameras.

Well remember Iger did say back in 2019, or whenever it was, said they would be taking a break from SW movies. So yeah I think the focus was on TV, but I don't think they expected to take this long of a hiatus.

So who knows at this point, but D23 seems like a good place to watch....

What can they realistically do? They stuffed up the chance at sequels.

Kenobi shows they're creatively bankrupt with new ideas. Just regurgitating things that happen in Star Wars.

The Mandalorian is the only thing that has worked.

The only option is to reinvent an entirely new Star Wars. Which there is zero hope they can do if they can't even do the existing Star Wars with new ideas.

Realistically they have two options. They can go into the future, far enough so the sequel characters aren't a factor. Or they can go old republic. The real problem I see is Disney wanting to commit to a new arc. They don't want to chance the first movie not going over well and having to worry about finishing it. One off movies are a safer bet. If it doesn't perform, just throw it to D+ early and move on. And if a one off does connect, you can then make that into a new series.

Of course it does all depend on Disney and Lucasfilm having the right creative people in place. And outside of John and Dave I don't know that they do.
