Table service dinners musts

If your taking your family to WDW first and probably only time what Restaurant would be a must?

If you have younger children I would say Chef Mickey's and / Crystal Palace. Which meal isn't even all that important. It's more the Disney experience. Cinderella's Royal Table would be a treat for a once in lifetime visit.

Getting an outdoor table at Rose and Crown to watch Illuminations can be special. Our family doesn't place much emphasis on "Fine Dining" while at WDW. We can get that at home. If you're into gourmet food, I'm sure other will provide you with multiple options.

What are you looking for? What type of food? Price range? What is a must for me may be different for you...
Well I have an 8Yr old girl and 16Yr boy. We will most likely be doing dinner plan. So most dinners would need to be 1 credit but one night we do want a fine dining experience. Not too picky on food. Really looking for places that have good food and cool atmosphere.

I would second the suggestion to provide some more of your personal preferences. There are so many different restaurants at WDW that you could ask 100 people this question and get 100 different answers.

For example do you want to focus on dining in the theme parks, or are you willing/able to travel to resort restaurants?

I think the food at WDW is pretty much consistently good, so I would focus on atmosphere. I can think of a few places that have the "I can't do this at home" feel.

Sci-Fi Drive in at the Studios. Average food but fun setting.
Whispering Canyon at Wilderness lodge. The waiters do some funny stuff from what I've read.
Coral Reef at Epcot for the aquarium.
California Grill is great if you can time it during fireworks.
Ohana at the Polynesian resort is one of my favourites. Resist the urge to scarf down the plentiful appies, save room for the meat.
Teppan Edo at Epcot where they grill at the table. Has a show element to it. Nothing special if you've been to this type of restaurant, but if you haven't you may find it fun.
San Angel Inn at Epcot. Get a waterside table and watch people on the attraction float by.

^^^^ This I'd do Crystal Palace one hour before park opening as it's so magical. If you're adventurous I hear Sanaa is quite good and only one credit. I'd skip CRT as it's 2 credits unless you dd is a total princess nut.

Is there any way to ensure getting an outdoor table at Rose and Crown?

MK: Be Our Guest (lunch) or The Plaza
Epcot: Via Napoli
Hollywood Studios: 50s Prime Time Diner
Animal Kingdom: Boma (but that is at the AK lodge I all reality)
Resorts:
Wilderness Lodge: Artisit Point (our favorite of ALL!!!)

Your 8 year old would probably love a character experience. My personal favorites are Crystal Palace for breakfast with Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore, Ohana for any meal with Stitch, Lilo, and Mickey, or Chef Mickey's for breakfast with Mickey and friends. All are great experiences and offer a lot of food options. Another fun one, but difficult to get sometimes, is the Garden Grill at EPCOT. It offers a character experience in a cool atmosphere (the restaurant rotates)! If you are looking for something a little different, I suggest Boma or Sanaa at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Both restaurants offer more cultural experiences and delicious foods. My family and I have had many meals at Boma and always go back for more. My step family and I did dinner at Sanaa for the first time on our trip in May and we greatly enjoyed it. Food options are wider at Boma, whereas at Sanaa it is mostly ethnic (Indian, I believe) cuisine. If you do choose to dine at Sanaa, I highly recommend the naan, as it is spectacular. And bonus, Sanaa has a view of the savannah at AKL, so you can see animals as you enjoy your meal. I hope this has helped! My family has done many meals at the parks and if you have questions on any other restaurants I would be happy to help! :)

I could tell you my favourite restaurants but that would be a different list than my recommendations for a first/only WDW vacation. So..

1. I would definitely book Chef Mickey's as others have said for early-ish on a Magic Kingdom day. Classic Disney. <3

2. I would also go with Biergarten in Epcot to get a really good feel for what World Showcase is all about.

3. And I would strongly recommend going to the Luau at the Poly and use 2 credits for that instead of 2 credits for fine dining. This also provides something nice for you to do on a day spent at your resort/pool, away from the parks.

4. 50s Prime Time Cafe at DHS is pure Disney. It is a throw back to what DHS was all about when it first opened and the food is top notch.

For that age children I would recommend 1900 Park Fare. Excellent character interaction! I expect the stepsisters would make quite a fuss over the 16 year old. Have fun where ever you end up going!

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Hoop De Doo dinner show at Fort Wilderness. It isn't fine dining, but the food is first rate, the setting is pure frontier, and the show is excellent, And fun.. Plus to get there, you can take a boat ride from the Magic Kingdom dock to Fort Wilderness and back..Our family always rated it the best of the dinner shows.

For a first and possibly only visit with your children, I, personally, would recommend it over a fine dining experience. Fine dining you can get at home. If you really want fine dining with a different atmosphere, I, too, would recommend Boma in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you have a reservation before dark, you can also take a short walk to see the animals on the savannah.

If its a definite "one and only one time".. I'd go for the Castle dining. The one time experience would be the most memorable because of the atmosphere and character interactions. There are other dining places that are fantastic with great meals that I'd recommend but since this is a one time thing I'd hate for you to miss out on the Castle.
