T-Rex vs. Rainforest Cafe

I'm a moron and have a Landry's card. So now I need to use this Landry's card. And my 180 day ADR window opens up in a couple of days. Time to plan to make use of this card.....

Yes, I'm going to do Yak & Yeti for AK for dinner one night.

But, I'm planning a Disney Springs evening on one of our park-free days. So which would you choose for dinner to make your 9 year old son and 7 year old daughter happy - T-Rex or Rainforest?

Which has the coolest animatronics?
Best food for adults?
Which one is less terrible than a run down, strip mall Chuck E. Cheese?

i have not been to T rex, when my boys were little they loved the Rainforest cafe. Now that they are grown we still go to the Rainforest cafe for the memories

I think that you can really just flip a coin, however, we had reservations at TRex a few years ago and still had to wait 45 minutes for out table. Heck, we had to wait 20 just to check in. It was a Zoo. It was on my sons birthday. They messed up the food and the dessert. It was a terrible night. But both places are generally a zoo. I am not a fan of the food. It is pretty much generic microwave chain food. But the stuff to look at is really cool. I think that the animatronics at Rainforest are better overall.

Definitely vote TREX. The food is nothing special, but the experience is memorable. It's been 4 years since we've been there and we still talk about that restaurant and the dessert we ordered that had fog coming out of it. Between the two, I would say do TREX. Oh, and make sure to take some tylenol beforehand :)

We are a couple in our 50s without children and we both like T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe. We like the food better at T-Rex but both are fun, and should be really fun for kids. One warning, avoid the glowing ice cave room at T-Rex...gave me an awful headache and we asked to be moved, which they happily did.

Both are loud and hardly fine dining or a quiet dinner.

I downright hate Rainforest Cafe. I have eaten there maybe 6 times, and then I gave up. I have never had a dish there that I was happy with.

I went into T-Rex expecting more of the same and was pleasantly surprised. Yes it is loud and obnoxious (perhaps more so than at Rainforest) but the food was surprisingly good. Not fine dining, not outstanding, but middle of the road chain decent. Even went back a second time.

So we did T-Rex last month at the request of my dinosaur obsessed 8 year old. GET THE CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN! It was literally way more food that I could eat, but it was probably some of the best tasting chicken fried chicken and gravy that I have had (and im from Alabama so we love us some fried food smothered in gravy). The kids menu had a ton of options as well.

We got the Landrys card and it was totally worth it and easy to use. We went on a Saturday night around 7. We walked up to the check in booth and showed them the card. They got my name and gave it to the hostess. We waited maybe 15 minutes at the most (long enough for me to take my daughter into the Build-A-Dino (Build-A-Bear). We are seated in the ice cave which I though was pretty cool (but I also dont have any issues with light sensitivities). The waiter took my card and while we were waiting for our food the manager came out and talked with us and told us about the different places we can use the Landry's card and was just overall super friendly.

With all that being said, T-Rex was pretty cool and we left with plenty of food to walk off on our way back to the POR boat launch.

We've enjoyed them both -- the kids love it, the animatronics are fun, and the food is okay. The sound level in both restaurants is like being strapped to an airplane engine powered by crying infants, but it's do-able for a single meal, and the food offerings are similar between the two. My advice would be to just ask your kids which they like better -- jungle animals or dinosaurs -- and make the choice based on theme.

I will say that our Landry's card worked like a greased red carpet for getting us seated without an ADR. At T-REX, the family in front of us was quoted a 40-minute wait, and the line was out the door. We showed our Landry's card and were seated at a table in the section we'd requested in about 5 minutes. Obviously, YMMV. We also used it for dinner at Yak & Yeti, which ended up being one of our all-time favorite meals on Disney property. (The menu is diverse, portions were huge, everything was fresh and delicious, etc. -- a big cut above the Applebee's-level, good-but-not-special, food at T-REX and Rainforest Cafe). Also, the freedom of not having to make an ADR is both intoxicating and addictive!

So you went to a restaurant you hate 6 times but went to a restaurant that you liked only 2??
