Switching resorts questions

We are switching resorts half-way through our stay and I have some questions that hopefully someone with experience can answer. I have never stayed on-site before so please take that into consideration :)

-I just completed online check-in for our trip, but it only let me check-in to the first resort. Will I have to use regular check-in at the second resort or is there another process?

- How do the tickets work? Do we keep our cards from the first resort and they will just program the new room at the new resort onto them or do we have to get new cards?

-Does anyone recommend using luggage service between resorts or should we just take it ourselves?

-Has anyone ever had any issues switching resorts? I want to be prepared for anything that could go wrong. I'm a little nervous about this process especially since I can't access all my info on the Disney site.

We have done the split stay and have never had problems, but I have heard others report issues - mainly with luggage being delayed. I think you should be able to do online check-in at the second resort once you are at 60 days out from the check-in date, but not positive. Honestly can't remember how they handled the tickets, but they will either give you new KTTW cards with everything transferred over, or just reprogram your existing ones. We used the bell service to transfer our luggage and had no issues.

As far as your tickets work you can keep them on your first card or when you check in at the next resort have them added to that card. Its your choice. If you do not need your luggage right away you can have them move it for you, but if you want access to it right away in case your room is ready at check in at the next resort I would take it with me. That is if you have a car. As far as on line check in if both stays are under the same confirmation number you only can do the one check in on line. If they are different numbers you should be able to do both when your in the window of that reservation.

The tickets will be attached to whatever media you got them on. If they were added to the KTTW from the first resort, then they would still work at the second resort. You can request that they transfer them, however not all CMs know how to do that.

Unless you have a car or pay for a taxi, you would need to use bell services to transfer your luggage. Luggage is not allowed on internal buses (officially, despite the amount of stuff people take to the parks each day). There are no problems with it, however I would follow the same guidelines as with the DME luggage delivery. It may take several hours (late afternoon) before the luggage is delivered. So anything that you may need during the day, carry with you, as it may not be at your new resort til later in the day.

You shouldn't have any issues with switching, outside of a possible delay on the luggage. Disney doesn't view it as a switch in their systems, but rather a new stay. So it's no big deal at all.

I think that the above posters pretty much answered your questions. I thought switching resorts was a pain in the rear & wasted time but, that's just my opinion. Anyway, our split stay was at AOA/POP so, we just walked our luggage across the bridge.

So you must get yourself to the new resort? If you do not have a car, you either take a taxi to the next resort or the internal Disney bus system? Is that correct?

Correct. We did this a couple of weeks ago. We took a late flight in and stayed at ASSports and transferred to BWI in the morning. We went to Bell Services, gave them our luggage, got on a bus to DTD and ate breakfast at Earl of Sandwich. Then we took a bus to BWI, checked in, went to Epcot, returned and called down for luggage.

Sounds good. We will have our van so not worried about transportation. Was more worried about issues with park tickets and such. Thanks everyone!

As far as online check in, I also had trouble with that. Took me awhile to figure it out. If you keep clicking on the tab that says check in online, it only takes you to the first reservation. But if you click on the second reservation itself, it will offer you a tab for check in online. Now, that was with the old website, God only knows if it will work the same way with the new website. But yes, you can do both check ins before you go.
And as far as transferring, relax. You said you were nervous, I was the first time too, but it is so easy that we now do it every trip- in my pursuit of staying at every resort on property. If it took lots of extra time I wouldn't keep doing it. You just need to stop in the lobby to get keys etc for second resort, if you're already checked in, wont take long at all. Will take extra time if you want to switch old ticket over to new card, but you don't need to do that if you don't want to.

Thank you! I am such a nervous nellie when it comes to doing things like this. My DH makes fun of me, but I have had a lot of bad experiences in the past and just want to make sure this goes smoothly. Sounds like it is an easy process. Very happy!

One question for the OP about your tickets/reservations that might need some clarification:

What kind of reservations do you have? Are they both packages that include tickets? Did you purchase tickets separately? Is the first booking a package and the second a room-only reservation?

If you booked packages for *both* reservations, which means both reservations include park tickets as part of the booking, then you will have tickets on both sets of room keys. They cannot combine two tickets onto one room key.

If you bought separate tickets, Lobby Concierge at the first hotel can encode them onto your room keys, and then the Concierge at the second hotel can move them onto the new keys.

If your first booking was a package and your second a room-only, then your tickets will automatically be assigned to you keys at hotel #1 and the Lobby Concierge at the second hotel can move your tickets over to the new keys at hotel #2.
