Switching Resorts Mid Stay

I just booked a night at the Port Orleans (thursday) because work forced me to go to Orlando. I figure that I might as well bring my family for a day or two.

My employer is paying for the $120 for a night at Port Orleans, but the night I don't need to be there the rate just up $100. So I was thinking of staying the second or third night at Saratoga springs or Old Key west.

Do you think this would be more trouble than it is worth?

Would we have to checkout and then back in (I assume we would)

You can do that without a problem but you will need to make 2 separate reservations and of course you will need to check out of PORS and check into SSR. Disney will however transfer you bags for you. The only rub to that is that you might not have access to your bags until after 3 which is not a big deal if you plan around it.

So now we are staying at the Saratoga for the second half of our long weekend.

Have a great time! Disney takes care of the bags, so don't worry about a thing - we have done split stays very many times with no issues!

They're really good about transfer or holding bags. One year we broke up our stay at the World and mid trip went to Tampa for a couple of nights, we didn't want to take all our bags with us so they kept them for us and delivered them to the room when we came back in.
