Swing dancing will be returning this summer

Swing dancing in Disneyland, a tradition started by Walt Disney himself, will be returning this summer. It was commonly known at "Date Nite at Disneyland." It had to go away to Downtown Disney for a little bit in order for PFF to be built, but Disney is bringing the tradition back this summer on select nights. Although Carnation Plaza Gardens has been replaced with Princess Fantasy Faire, the dance floor is still there. The floor will be open for swing dancing during the all-nighter coming up, but will officially make its return for the summer on June 15th. Great news for all the swing dancers and DL fans.

Last night of swing dancing before CPG closed for PFF:

A documentary on Carnation Plaza Gardens, entitled "The Stage Walt Built", can be seen here. It's thirty-one minutes long:

If they knew how successful DCA 2.0 was going to be...

Agreed. DCA could have had a perfect swing dancing location built in Paradise Gardens, or Buena Vista Street off of Carthay Circle. But the locals would have flipped out if they had tried to do that. That is, until DCA 2.0 opened on June 15th 2012 and we all realized how cool DCA had just become. Oh well.

That said, it's nice to know Date Nites are returning to Disneyland this summer. I wonder what they'll do for tables and chairs around the dancefloor though, since they were all removed for Fantasy Faire? Move new ones in after sundown? You have to have a place to sit in between dances.

Here's a fun commercial for Date Nite from the early 1960's! Ah, Disneyland... so hip, so stylish, so charming.

Summer is on the way, see you on the dancefloor!

If they knew how successful DCA 2.0 was going to be, they could have built a dance floor somewhere in the Paradise Gardens area. Anytime before 6/15/2012, people would have absolutely FLIPPED OUT if they moved swing dancing to "the other park"... but it would actually strengthen the 40's/50's theming over there.

This is what everyone argues on MiceChat.

Where do people sit for the stage shows they have during the day?

I haven't been on MiceChat much lately... you just have to believe me. :p

It's just a shame... if Carnation Plaza Gardens closed this summer instead of last summer, it seems like a no-brainer to build a dance floor there. Now that everything is all done, I feel like it's the kind of thing that management (any management, not just picking on Disney here) will just let sink or swim at Princess Fantasy Faire without giving much thought to it.
