Swimming in February

We plan to arrive at the Poly next Wed. I had read that Disney increased the temp in the pools so you could swim year round. I see the high while we are there will be around 64 and I am starting to wonder.....my question...how warm does Disney keep the pools?

Thanks.

Thank you so much...you are so kind. It looks like your weather will be better...in the 70's. I hope you have a very good time. I can't wait whether I swim or not.

If you had rather email me...my email is grantkf@hotmail.com. I will be waiting to hear from you. Take care.....

I'm not sure on the exact temp, but it may be kind of cool for swimming. We were at WDW at the beginning of December (similar temps) and we tried swimming...it was just too cool (now the hot tub on the other hand, that was great!). In fact, the only people we saw in the pool the whole time we were there were young children (and really very few of them).

Oh well, I can go to a motel and swim anytime. I have struggled for this trip....broke my ankle & I mean crushed with major surgery. I just went back to work today. My boss knows I have money invested in this trip so she is still letting me take my vacation after just working three 1/2 days and 3 whole days....so I am not going to let a little cold weather hamper my spirits.

Thanks guys....even if it rains...at least I am at Disney. I have looked forward to this trip all through my recovery. I certainty don't sound my age of 44 do I?

It is so good to have someone to ask questions and talk about Disney with. 7 more days!!!!

We've been to WDW when it's been cooler and always found at least a day or two to be able to get some swimming in. The pools are pretty warm...someone once told me 80. (Not sure if that's true.)

But we're from WI so we never let a little cool weather stop us from a swim:lol:

My kids swam almost everyday on our trip in October and all but the last day we were there in January. A front came through and the temperature (air) dropped to the low 40's. We've been there for the past 3 years in Februarys and the kids have always swimmed.

The pools are indeed heated to 84 year-round. I went swimming 3 days before Christmas (at the Polynesian) and it was fine. Going in the heat of the day....between 12-3 helps too.
Have a magical trip!

Going in won't be bad since the water is warm. When you get out just have towels ready and run back to your longhouse so you won't freeze afterward. But as long as you stay in the pool (or slide) you will be fine. You do have to try the pool once though whether it is cold or not, since the volcano slide is great.

Have a great time on Vacation and give us a trip report when you get back. I would especially like to hear what you think about the resort, since I want to hear some more opinions (even though I have stayed there myself). Have fun!

Thanks everyone. I will give a trip report. I am so excited to be staying at the Poly. We have only stayed at the AKL on property. Staying on the monorail in a MK resort is a dream come true. Since we are AP's we got concierge garden view at a steal. Our plane leaves at 6 am on 2/5 and we will be eating breakfast on the concierge level that day!!!! and hopefully riding the rock & roll coaster by noon.

:sohappy:

I guess it all depends on where you're from. Pixie Dust is from WI, and I'm from MN, so we're used to cold cold weather. So for us if it gets above 70 degrees, it's warm enough to swim. Heck, in the summers it dips into the 60's here, and I'll still jump in my parent's pool when I stop by now and then.

Remember, if the water's warm, there really will be no problem. It's the getting out and running to the towel in the cold(er) air that is. :)

Yea, getting out is the bad thing...but if you are prepared and ready to move...it should be worth it!!! I think some people have hot tubs on their decks and sit in them when there is snow on the ground....but I am cold natured so we will see.

I will probably take a sweetshirt and pants and a coat to put on when I get out....HEE HEE

I just got back yestreday and we had several days when the highs were in the mid to upper seventies and plenty of folks were in the pools. One day it was kind of breezy and only the diehards were in the pool so it really just depends on air temperture, the water itself was plenty warm. Have a great trip!

Hi KathyG/poohbear! I just got back from WDW on Sat. and the highs were 60's-70's everyday with lows 45-55 area and we went swimming quite a few times. :sohappy: Nightime was a little rough but the daytime was no problem. Hop in the hot tub at night after the pool. You will never feel how cold it is outside.:D
