Swim diapers

What is the deal on swim diapers at the pools and water parks? When we go in September, I'll have a boy three months shy of three. I really think he could be potty-trained b/c he is already going on the potty, but if he isn't totally and I put a swim diaper on him, will he be unable to go in the big pool at WL and the activities at Typhoon Lagoon? He is a big boy with a big sister and it will kill him to see her doing stuff he can't do.

We have taken our DD on many things at WDW pools and parks and never had a problem with her being turned down because of a swim diaper. I know they are required instead of regular dipaers or going with out when it is needed. (DD isn't potty trained, but knows she is not supposted to go when she doesn't have a diaper on. Most of the time she waits until we put the regular diaper on to go after wearing a swim one. This is our own potty training issue right now :brick:. ) However I wouldn't trust her to not get caught up in playing and forget. Better safe then sorry.

She went in the big pools at Poly, SAB at BCV, WL, and everthing she wanted at BB and TL.

I know the pools on the curise ships have rules agaisnt swim diapers, but I don't think the other places do.

Last year we took our DD, who was 2y3m old to both the water parks and she wore swim diapers in the pools, the lazy rivers and even in the Wave pools.

No one stopped us and we did not see any signs that stated whe shouldn't be in there.

I'm surprised that you think there is a restriction. The only one I know of is that toddlers who aren't potty trained need to wear swim diapers. In fact I believe they actually sell them in the water parks.

Although it's not posted at AKL (I think), I do recall two instances last summer when a little boy and little girl were in the pool in regular diapers, and the lifeguards made a big deal and told the parents they would need to go and purchase a swim diaper.

They sell them everywhere if you choose not to bring them and run into the same problem. They are $1 in the machines in the bathroom near the pool.

Yes, I've seen this happen to. It amazes me how dumb some parents are; I mean as soon as a regualr diaper hits the water it just sucks it all up like a sponge... I know their are signs posted in the water parks and I also saw them posted at POR when we were there.

In my experience...

At the waterpark where I work at, anyone wearing a diaper must be wearing both a swim diaper AND rubber pants...mostly because the swim diapers have great elastic around the legs, but not so great around the waist...and if it's a floater, it's gonna jsut pop up and out...Here in Illinois, that's the state health code, to wear both...and boy do I love going around and telling parents that their children need to be wearing rubber pants...and many a time I've had to clean up messes because a parent neglected to follow the rules..:hammer: ...when will people learn that rules are there so that you aren't swimming along and you swallow something that you don't want to???

Holy cow. As a non-parent, I had no idea about swim diapers. ...which makes sense because the baby would just do business whereever. I am glad they have this rule. In fact, parents should consider seran-wrap too to make sure the baby is air-tight.

See what you have to look forward to?

These are great for kids who won't stay out of the water. Too bad my kids were past the diaper stage when they came out.
