Sunglasses

I think somewhere under the Disney Look guidelines it said something about only being allowed to wear them if you're in direct contact with some type of glare- like the tops of tables, water, etc. so only for custodial and lifeguards it looks like.... or maybe if it's for some medical reason, like you get migraines from the sun... and there's a billion guidelines to what the glasses look like if you do wear them

Very simple question: Are CMs who work outdoors allowed to wear sunglasses at any time?
I read on the CP website that you are allowed to wear sunglasses as long as they are a natural color (such as black or brown...no yellow or hot pink) and they are not mirrored (they want guests to be able to see your eyes)
and they request that you remove them if you are having prolonged guest interaction.

this is something that is very important to me because I have very sensitive eyes.

Well, that's good news for me. What about hats? I'm half Swedish and currently residing in Washington State, so I'm a teensy bit worried about running around in the Florida sun 8 hours a day....

I would assume if it is not part of your regular costume, you arent allowed to wear it.

Taryn, they'll have a hat or a visor for custodial cast members. Use sunscreen! :D

DisneyJoey, as for sunglasses, they do want natural colors AND the kind that are not completely dark so you can see your eyes or at least to some degree. Some guest might feel awkward talking into sunglasses so they can't be too dark.

Thanks so much for the replies, guys!
This is a huge relief considering I am at risk for glycoma and retinal pigmentosia and am advised to wear sunglasses as much as possible. I have no problems currently but I could if I had to go unprotected in the Florida sun for a long time. This is all superceded by my migraines. My migraines are not induced by bright light, only aggravated by them (i.e. if I already have a migraine bright light isn't fun).
Good to note on the mirrored glasses, because that's all I have right now. I want to make sure I am prepared in case I get an outdoor greeter role, a Fastpass role, or something similar to that.

Thanks again!

In your case Joey, why dont you get a note from your Dr. advising whomever may give you a hard time about your need for sunglasses.
Vision is a very presious thing.

I would but I'm scared they'll see me as a liability if right off the bat I am sending them letters about migraines and potential eye problems. It is NOT job-altering (99.9% of the time, with the .1% being migraines which I have medicine for), so I don't want to mention it unless I have to.

Completely understandable...Maybe you can keep the note safe with you, just in case or something.

Migraines suck :( I always feel so bad when I hear people suffer from them. My bestfriends husband suffers from migrains to the point where his vision doubles and nothing will touch the pain :(
*hugs*
