Stupid Lawyers

I think it seems as though there is really no clear cut way of defending the two. As it appears Utah has no respect for those that plead temporary insanity, that doesn't seem to be a good argument. The only thing I can think of is that, well Elizabeth, though alive, was surrounded by hundreds of people at some times, yet NEVER attempted to alert someone as to the situation? I just find that a little odd, missing for 9 months, and you don't tell a single stranger when you are out in a public place that you need help. Almost as though she was content in her situation. Now, don't get me wrong, I think that the two that kidnapped her, are a few bagels short of a dozen, and the crime they committed was a travesty. I still think they deserve to be put away, end of story.

Take a breath.

EVERYONE accused of a crime is entitled to a lawyer. It's how we do things in America.

Public defenders do not get to pick whom they will defend.

There are lots of reasons that Elizabeth Smart did not try to escape, most of which we'll never know.

She was, by all accounts, an obedient child who did what adults said. A few hours after being dragged out of her bed at knifepoint, she was raped--a good way for her captors to make sure she knew they were in charge.

The LDS church believes strongly in modern day prophets and prophecies. Elizabeth's religious upbringing would have taught her to pay attention to someone who claims to be a prophet.

We all have a survival instinct, and until we are in that kind of situation, it is unfair to second guess what she felt she needed to do to stay alive.

If you don't like it that much, move to somewhere, say Iraq, that doesn't get this or any other privildedge that we get in the USA.
