I think it seems as though there is really no clear cut way of defending the two. As it appears Utah has no respect for those that plead temporary insanity, that doesn't seem to be a good argument. The only thing I can think of is that, well Elizabeth, though alive, was surrounded by hundreds of people at some times, yet NEVER attempted to alert someone as to the situation? I just find that a little odd, missing for 9 months, and you don't tell a single stranger when you are out in a public place that you need help. Almost as though she was content in her situation. Now, don't get me wrong, I think that the two that kidnapped her, are a few bagels short of a dozen, and the crime they committed was a travesty. I still think they deserve to be put away, end of story.
