Stroller question

I know that strollers need to be folded up when boarding buses. I think strollers can be left intact and wheeled onto the monorail (perhappppps even with sleeping children in the stroller). :D

My question is -- what about the SSL boats? Would we need to remove the kids from the stroller and fold the stroller for a boat ride back to our resort?

We're currently booked into Poly so our MK-to-resort options are monorail or boat. I'm somewhat considering moving our resort reservations to Contemp so we could walk (stroller intact with possible sleeping children) back to our resort at the end of the evening.

Thanks for any input you all might have!!

I would keep your booking at Poly for a number of reasons! As for the "stroller on the boat" question, I only recall having to fold the stroller on the little boats with the striped canopies & the medium-sized boats that resemble the bigger ferry.

IF, you are at all worried about waking a sleeping child in a stroller while trying to get back to the Poly from MK or EP, do not fret! The Poly is the best resort for this, because you can hop the monorail at the TTC, which is walk able from the Poly, & go directly to MK or EP. Or, hop the massive ferry boat from the TTC and go directly to and from MK. Lastly, you can hop the monorail from inside the main building at your resort. None of these options require you to wake a sleeping kid.

We stayed here in May 2010, and would LOVE to go back here specifically for the mere convenience of getting to and from our fav parks: MK and EP!

We also stayed at the Contemporary and BLT, and while we did like being able to walk over to MK, getting to EP was a pain in the patooty. You need to hop the mono to the TTC, hop off the mono, walk down and then up the ramps, and then hop the mono to EP.

You won't regret staying at the Poly!!

So there are two different sets of boats from MK? One (smaller boats?) set goes to the resorts (GF and Poly IIRC)? And the other (larger) boat goes to TTC? That would be helpful, as we could walk from TTC back to our rooms at Poly.

I don't know that "sleeping kids" may even be an issue. When we go in January, MK closes 8pm most nights. The kids will probably be awake that late (especially since we are building in nap time each afternoon).

I should add -- I do not relish hoisting the kiddos out of the stroller if we are "forced" to do so. My DD4 is almost 40 lbs now, and her 2.5 year old brother is only about 3 lbs behind her.

Thanks for the info!!

"Yup," the smaller boat goes to GF & Poly, but the big Ferry departs from TTC, taking 10 minutes or less to get there. My DD's loved riding on the ferry!

Our room was located in the Rapa Nue longhouse, which was a 5 minute walk to the TTC...not once did we take the monorail from the main house. We liked hopping one of the express monorails from the TTC to EP or MK. As for the walk to the main building, it was a 7 minute walk, which we honestly did not mind because it was such a beautiful and relaxing walk.

Enjoy the resort with the kiddos!!

I'm so glad someone asked this! I didn't think about this, but I definitely don't want to wake up DD when she's sleeping in her stroller! Glad the Wilderness Lodge to MK won't ask us to. =-)

The CM's operating those boats might ask you to fold up the stroller if it's getting very crowded. Also, if you want to sit in the front of the boat, out in the fresh air, you'll have to fold your stroller up. Oh, and if you have a double, you're twice as likely to be asked to fold it up before boarding.

When we stayed there a few years ago, we found that mid-day wasn't too crowded, so we were able to keep the stroller open. Don't worry though, the CM's are sympathetic when they see a sleeping child in a stroller, so if it is crowded, they might just ask you to step to the side or back of the boat (this happened after a long day at the park for us). For the morning boat ride, we always had the stroller folded up, because DD6 wanted to ride in the very front.

Enjoy your resort...it's gorgeous!

Thanks for the info. We will have a double as the kiddos in question will be 4 and (almost) 3 years old. I plan on renting a City Mini Double -- which is super easy to fold. I just don't want to have to dump out any sleeping kid(s) to do so. ;)

I guess it will be hit-or-miss for any mode of transportation (monorail, TTC ferry boats, or resort boats) whether we might need to fold the stroller or not.

More info for me to ponder....... :) I would love to keep our reservations at Poly, but Contemp might be better as we can walk "home" if the kiddos conk out.

Awesome! Thank you!!

I only have a single stroller, and I think we'll probably mostly be traveling mid-day around her nap times so that's good. I don't mind folding up the stroller at all, or waiting until another boat if she's sleeping. I'm just excited to be going! =)

If you are at the Poly you can take the monorail directly to and from MK. You dont even need to switch. I think the monorail is much quicker and easier than the boats. And there's no need to fold up your stroller and wake your child.

I know I can take the monorail to Poly. I was "contingency planning" in the event the monorail is jam packed at park close. Would it be just as easy to take the boat (or would folding the stroller make that a more difficult choice)? Would Contemp be the best choice (access via monorail or simply walking back to the resort)?

I obsess (slightly) about this stuff. ;)
