Stroller for 5 year old and 1 year old??

We will be traveling to Disney with a 1 year old and 5 year old. Our 5 year old never uses a stroller but I know how tiring Disney can be. Do we buy a double just for this (seems wasteful), just not take one to accommodate the 5yo, rent one (though buying is the same price). Thoughts? What have you done in the past? Any advice is appreciated.

I did 2 kids (7 and 1) a few years ago. My son has autism and therefore low muscle tone, so from a physical development standpoint, probably similar to a 5 year old on the stamina scale.

We just took the 1 umbrella stroller for the 1YO, but then late at night if the 7YO was getting tired (Epcot or MK mostly) I’d carry the 1YO for a bit and let the 7YO ride in the stroller for a bit to rest his legs. Worked for us. It’s a little taxing carrying a 1 year old from WS to the bus at 10 at night, but I found it easier over all than managing 2 strollers or a double.

Our 4-year-old never needed a stroller in Disney, but then again, we toured in 5-hour stints (ropedrop to lunchtime, and 4pm-9pm or so) with a lengthy nap break in between (my daughter was past the napping age, but the whole family took daily naps anyway when in WDW and no one had trouble getting to sleep!).

I'd take your 5-year-old on some mall-walking, museum or festival excursions to test his/her stamina, and compare it to what you expect to be doing at WDW. If you can avoid lugging around an extra/second/larger stroller, I'd do so at all costs. You can always rent one on-site or from a local company if you discover you really need one. Just bring the phone numbers with you to make it easy.

We took our 5yr old DD & 1yr old DGS in Dec.13' & had an umbrella stroller for our daughter & had a light weight stroller for our grandson. Our daughter didn't need it much at the studios but, definitely needed it for Epcot & MK! Our daughter will be 6 & 1/2 for our next trip & debating on whether we'll need to rent one on a few days or not.
