Stress free eating with a nut allergic child...aaagghh!!!

My 4 year old is allergic to nuts. We're going to WDW in the fall and I'm wondering if any of you who deal with this issue know of any resturaunts or carts that are nut-free. Or, any specific meals, snacks and/or deserts that are consistantly safe for nut allergic kids. I'm disapointed that the deserts seem to be mostly stuff he won't be able to have. Concerned about ice cream because of cross contamination. I know Disney is generally great about this but I'm still pretty worried. We have never had a serious reaction yet but I don't want his memory of Disney World to be a trip to the emergency room! Nothing like feeling like your kid has to live in a food-bubble. Thanks in advance for any info you all have!

I second the search option -- we have had several active threads about it -- and many solutions. You will find that many of the carts and counters have individually wrapped items now that have not come in contact with other foods. With a search, you will find suggestions from individual counter options to the benefits or ordering kosher meals...

Happy reading! You will feel much more comfortable after searching through the replies as so many people have had to deal with this issue.

To make it a little easier without the searching...Call the restaurant and speak to the chef. They will do whatever they can to accomodate you.

The only thing thats safe at a ODF wagon are the strawberry bars, oj bars, itakadoozie, and the no-sugar strawberry bars.

All of the other (ie:Mickey premium, Mickey cookie & cream, Tollhouse cookie, Nestle crunch bar, and frozen banana) either have nuts or could contain them from cross contamination.

Good thing I paid attention during food & beverage basics.

Thanks a lot! That is good to know.

Out door food, I'm guessing? You'll be hard pressed to find many prepackaged foods that don't have the "may contain nuts" or "Processed on equipment that shares with nut products" (however they phrase that)

My daughter has nut allergies, both peanut and treenut, however, thank God, not life threatening, at least with the peanuts. She throws up all over  :( But, we are not sure what would happen with the tree nuts, so that's the one I am really careful about.

Either way, we've NEVER had a problem at WDW. In fact, during our breakfast at Cinderella's castle, the chef came out and talked to us, and her. I was actually quite surprised. Never had anybody asked if there were allergies at the table, let alone have the chef come out and speak with us!

I have mutiple food allergies and must ALWAYS have a chef come out to my table, they are great. One tip about ice cream parlors (for ice cream cones) if you explain the allergy they will open a fresh containter of ice cream and use a brand new scoop so that your child can have nut free ice cream....

That makes me so happy! My son LOVES ice cream and I would love to be able to get him some from main street in the ice cream shop without having to worry about it. Thanks!

None of these would EVER be my first choice. But a 4 year old is usually thrilled with a popsicle.

THAT'S what I think of when you say "ice cream" -- something with actual dairy products in it! Let's hear it for butterfat!!

Yes, it is!
