strange question

I am doing some investigative work for a good friend of mine whose son is having a very tough time. While I realize this may be a wild goose chase, I will do whatever I can to help her. Since August, her son has experienced debilitating dizziness, nausea, and fatigue. Whenever he stands up, his blood pressure bottoms out and his heart rate spikes. He has been unable to attend school this entire year because of his situations. Specialists have not been able to give them a diagnosis of any kind as none has seen this before. I got to thinking the other night how glad I was they had a great trip to Disney last summer before all of this started. Then it hit me-maybe somehow the two are connected. Has anyone else who went to Disney last June (2009) had any similar experience? As I said, I know this is a wild goose chase, but we don't want to leave any stone unturned. Any help would be appreciated.

I am nowhere near being qualified to give medical advice, but some of the symptoms you mentioned sound very similar to what my dad use to suffer from. It's an inner ear condition caused by having too much fluid build up in the inner ear. it's called Menares (sp) disease. He's able to now control it by salt reduction, proper amount of rest and by trying to eliminate as much stress as possible. Hope he starts to feel better soon.

Look into something called Dysautonomia. All of those symptoms are consistent with that. There's something called POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) which is a type of Dysautonomia that causes a racing heart rate and dizziness upon standing up. POTS is something that most doctors have never heard of before (I know from experience) but can be diagnosed with a simple (but costly) test called a Tilt Table Test.

But seriously...head in the direction of Dysautonomia. You'll find tons and tons of answers there. Regular doctors are generally clueless about stuff like this so the parents need to be very proactive. He needs to see a neurologist.
