Since Im Not Very Old I Have A Question.
What Did The Terrible Stitches Great Escape Replace?

It was pretty darn good! Definitely not for little kids. It was dark and the alien was not cute and cuddly. Like Stitch, you just sat in your seat and the experience took place around you in the dark.

I thought it was unfortunate they removed it, especially to replace it with something as inferior as SGE. If they wanted to tie Stitch into the ride, I could understand that, but they really fell short of the mark on this one.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
I know it freaked me out when i was like maybe between 5 or 7, my dad had to take me out before the thing even started.

Alien Encounter rocked!!! If only parents had read the warnings outside the attraction...<sigh>

Now we have Stitch - a craptastical but kid-friendly alternative to an amazing attraction...blech.

What did stich replace?
Stich replaced something MUCH MUCH better, original, unique, terrifying, sensory overload. An AMAZING attraction.

I'm not bitter at all

I loved Alien Encounter! Stitch is cute for little kids, I suppose, but I was personally disappointed in it. I definitely feel as though they could have done more with the new show.

As many people that loved AE also marched to City Hall to complain about the attraction. Most, if not all, were the "push the kids on every ride to get our money's worth" kind of family.

So sad such an attraction was removed. :(

i've only ever seen the extraTERRORestrial on youtube (hmm, surely the TERROR in the name would tell people with yonn children to stear clear but oh well) and it did look fightening. however, i do really like the main audio animatronic in stitch and did enjoy the attraction. i don't see why it gets so much stick.

I so very much regret I never got the chance to ride Alien Encounter!

I love Stich, the movie. I also love Stitch the character. I hate him in the parks. He deserves better. As it is, both the concept of 'scary attraction' and 'Stitch' are not done justice. It is a silly combination to begin with. A marketing decision, not a creative one.

'We get complaints from parents (who can't read signs)' + 'we have this new character form a next generation we want to push'.
'Well he's an alien, why not dump in in Tomorrowland? Everybody happy'

:hammer:

Since it seems like Stitch's Great Escape isn't going anywhere soon, yet so many fans would like to see Alien Encounter come back, why not gut that terrible Sounds Dangerous theater and replace it with Alien Encounter. Studios would be a much better fit for that thing!

Alien Encounter was a PHENOMENAL attraction. It was completely immersive, and its sense of journey was unmatched by any other Tomorrowland attraction. You actually like you were a part of the experiment, and the tension built slowly as you moved through the various pre-show rooms.

However, the attraction was placed in the wrong park. It was in a park that's all sunshine and Santa Claus and bright lights and lollipops (and if you know where that's from, I have a special surprise for you!), and parents elected not to read the (many, many, many) warning signs about what sort of attraction this was. Naturally, their kiddies got scared, and they marched right down to City Hall to lodge a complaint. The Slantinel started running stories about how Disney was scaring little kids, and in time, the PR was so terrible that they "reimagined" the attraction with Stitch.

I fully believe that if the attraction had opened at the Studios, it would not only still be open, but still be extremely popular.

Well said. I miss that show, it almost felt as if it gave Tomorrowland a different kind of vibe because it wasn't just for kids. Buzz may be sort of for kids in a way but i like it anyways. Monsters inc is sort of the same, though that just doesn't feel like its in the right place. And Stitch isn't quite as bad as everybody makes it out to be but lets be honest. Were all still quite grumpy about losing our Alien Encounter. I know I am.

As much as I loved Alien Encounter (I was 11 when I last rode it and yes, it scared me an incredible amount) I think for WDW, Stitch is a better replacement, as its mainly for the kids. I also agree that it should have been put at Studios.
