Starting small to see how we like it first, but whats not to like? :)

We placed a offer for a 100 point contract at SSR on the secondary market today. We offered the "asking" price so I can not imagine it not being accepted. Paying cash for the points so they will be paid off at the offset, just the $500 per year or so maintenance fees after that..

SSR seems liked a good entry point and 100 points a good starter amount. No points till April 2015 but we already have a WWD trip booked for June this year so that is fine. No maintenance fees in 2014 which is nice.

I can squeak by with 100 points a year (well I will need to rent 10 or so more per year) but yeah gonna have to pick up some more next year :)

So can somebody show me the secret DVC handshake when it all goes thru or do I need more points to learn that ? :)

LOL - we are waiting to close on 160 at AKL. Let's practice the handshake together. My MIL is terminal with multiple myleoma (cancer). My husband had a moment on our last trip and decided that life is now and money is for now. He liquidated from funds and we are buying. I am soooo nervous.

There isn't a handshake...it's just a nod:cool:

If you need extra points you can buy 1 time use points directly from DVC for $15 a point. I think the limit is 24 points a year, but it could come in handy if you just need a few extra points.

Makes all the real sense in the world :) Honestly I can make money / save money latter, time with family (kids to be sure) is fleeting….OMG I sound like a old man :)

Good ideal getting the 160, 100 is almost "enough" but not really. I can already see me getting at least 50 more in the next year or two :)

Good stuff there, thanks :)

If we go to the BW next year the same week we are going this year (paying OOP this year) it will be 106 points, since we will have 100 we need the 6 points. Buying them 1 time would cost only $90, not bad at all :)

That is not bad - my daughter is begging us for a quick weekend for the villains in september/october. We were going to bank and borrow for Hawaii in 2 years. That would be awesome!!

Here is one of those "should already know questions" :)

When you book a room with the DVC points, let say it is 150 points, you provide the 150 points and that room is 100% paid off correct? In other words are there any taxes or fees out of pocket for the stay on top of the 150 points. With cash of course the room is say $100 per night but then the taxes and fess are added driving the price up.

No hidden fees. The only out of pocket it if you charge to your room or things of that nature. If you just come and go, make no landline phone calls, and don't charge, yes, your room is paid off.
