Hey everyone,
We're staying offsite this year but our kids want to ride the monorail and we want to tour some resorts. I noticed on mousesavers.com it said that riding the monorail is free to anyone who is staying onsite and to anyone who purchases multi-day passes (which we are purchasing the 6-day PH pass). So, is this either/or? Has anyone ever stayed off property and still been able to ride the monorail around and view the resorts???

It's free to anybody who gets on it. :) You could hop on after Epcot and go back to the TTC, and either walk or ride over to the Polynesian and look around, and once you've finished that, make the loop around and get off at each stop. (You could also, of course, do this after the Magic Kingdom as well)

Not only can anyone ride, ask to sit up front with the driver. Go all the way to the front and ask a CM if you can ride up front. The kids will love it. You can see everything.

It's easier to ride up front if you do this during the middle of the day or just before Illuminations or Wishes will begin. We were able to ride up front when we left Epcot about an hour before Illuminations was about to begin one night. We were the only ones waiting for the monorail. Have fun, and maybe you might want to even take a boat ride over to Wilderness Lodge from MK.

The boat to the Wilderness Lodge is a good break from the walking and it
keeps the little ones occupied for 20 minutes or so. Try to get towards the
front of the line to get some seats up front. There is a great restaurant
inside the resort where it is ok for all to make a lot of noise. In fact the
waiters/waitress's yell for ketchup and sing songs as the little ones race
ponies throughout the restaurant. I digress...the Monorail is a lot of fun as
well and allows you to preview other resorts for future trips. No one asks to
see any tickets or passes regarding the Monorail or the boat.

Sure! What we like to do when we are traveling with "newbies" is go to dinner at 'Ohana the first night (not using a park ticket) and then ride the monorail around the resort loop.

Unless you have a dinner reservation at one of the resorts you will probably have to pay for parking at the TTC, though you can come in the evening and sometimes the parking lot attendants have left for the day.

anyone can ride the monorail and tour the resorts -it doesnt cost anything.
if i where you i would park at a resort or DTD (its free to park there) or a park (that would cost $$) then resort hop using boat, bus or monorail. i really enjoy resort hopping getting to look around other resorts i do it everytime i go and you must get the monorail to the contemporary and walk around there and visit the grand floridian and AKL seeing all the animals -that is a lovely sight. i always use a park as my base -its MGM coz the bus stops are closer together than the other parks in my opinion.
