Staying Off Grounds

We will be staying off grounds in April for the first time, about a 5 to 10 minute drive from Disney. The home looks closer to Animal Kingdom area than MK. (Formosa Gardens-Kissimmee). When planning our fast passes, approximately how much time should we allow to get from parking lot to the park entrance? I want to plan our fast passes accordingly.
Thank you.

If you are talking about how far from Animal Kingdom from Formosa it is only a couple of miles away. If you don't insist on going in at the World Drive entrance there is an entrance with no big signage that comes out from 192 just about to the entrance of DAK. Sherberth Road takes you almost directly there. If you have MapQuest type in Sherberth Road, Kissimmee, Florida to see exactly where it is and how close it is to Formosa. It is a legal entrance, just not pushed or as popular.

At the same time you can see that you are also very close to World Drive (just a little to the east). None of it takes very long to get to any of the parks from there. It is a few miles in to MK, but, all the rest generally the same distance.

Thank you. Could you tell me how long it usually takes once you park to get through the gates? I have to take that into consideration when scheduling fast passes. Thanks.

In MK, allow for at least a half hour from the parking lot to the gate if you take the Ferry across. Depending on the crowd levels waiting for a Monorail can sometimes get frustrating. For all the rest at most, it's 20 minutes to the gate. No matter where you go try and allow for a little extra time. One never knows and it is much better to be early then late.

Why schedule early FPs? But from TTC parking to MK, it is about 15 minutes depending on how you catch the ferry or monorail.

The easy answer is to not schedule fastpasses first thing in the morning ( if we're talking arrival before RD in the morning). Use those first couple of hours to ride some of the rides that will have longer lines in the afternoon. THEN start using your FPs in the late morning, when the lines will have built up.

MK (TTC to gates) can easily take 30 min in the early morning. The other parks should only take 15 minutes. but you also need to allow 5-10 minutes to get through the security lines before you actually get to the gates.

If you are talking about a rental home off 192, you can easily take a short cut on Sherbirth Road as an alternative entrance which will put you right in front of DAK. This is by far the fastest way onto property from that area.

I don't see ourselves being at the park at RD. We will be traveling with a 3, 7 and 82 year old. My best guess is that we leave our rental house around 9 or 10 a.m.?

Because we are morning and RD people, I could never see myself getting there that late. The reason is the lines have already formed by the time you get to the park and you just have to live with the waits. I would expect the 3 and 7 year old to be going bonkers to get out.

I hope you are right - we are morning people so I have no problem getting to the parks early. Last year when they went (ages 2 and 6). (we did not go) they usually left Animation (stayed on grounds last year) At about 9 a.m. So we shall see.

The only park that will add substantial time is MK... allow roughly 30 mins(maybe slightly less or more depending on a variety of factors) from Lot-Tram-Monorail/Ferry-Security-Gate-YOU'RE IN!

I had a few rope drop days planned on our trip. We ended up only doing one..and arrived 5 minutes before park opening, the only reason I kept that one is because of Jedi training.

We did have one other day where we had to be at the MK early for EMM...and we were late for that as well. Not bc we overslept, we were up in plenty of time. We were having breakfast and I just wanted my 6 year old to relax and eat and chat together before running from attraction to attraction all day. I don't regret it. If your kids are asking to walk out of the door in time then go for it, if they're enjoying a breakfast and family time- savor those few calm moments. The park isn't going anywhere.

My 2 cents :)

Hopefully too many people aren't doing that. There may actually be others who want to camp.
Unfortunately that is exactly the case that has been reported and could possibly lead to minimum stay requirements at Fort Wilderness. Nobody's perfect but it amazes me the lengths people will go to to "cheat" the system.
