From Rebelscum.com:
In a welcomed move, runDisney has just announced the first ever Star WarsVirtual Half Marathon with a Kessel Run Challenge option. Basically, anyone can sign up for the Virtual Half Marathon and, on their own time, complete the distance to receive the Half Marathon medal. For those running the Dark Side Weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando this April, you'll now be able to use this Virtual race to complete the Kessel Run Challenge if you're also signed up for and complete the First Order Challenge. As of this morning, the Star Wars5k & First Order Challenge (10k & Half Marathon) have NOT sold out yet and can still be purchased through the runDisney website, so make plans to join us and complete the Kessel Run Challenge!

The cost of running the Virtual Half Marathon is just $59.00 and adding to the Kessel Run Challenge option is an additional $10.00, so a very affordable fix for everyone.

Be sure to check out what appears to be the first look at the Virtual Half Marathon medal too which features a Resistance pilot!

Now you can pretend to run a marathon and get a medal.

It seems this is a regular thing at WDW. That would explain the nursing homes full of half day marathon medals.

Wow. They found a way to charge you to stay home. I don't know if this is a monument of ingenuity or cynicism.

But I suspect they'll get plenty of hits from the hardcore who want to maintain their gapless continuity of bling and certificates.

Lol. Wait a minute. At first I assumed there would be some sort of broadcast Of the marathon for folks at home where they could use their VR googles and run in place or on a treadmill- which is bad enough. Are you telling me they re charging folks to “run” around the block a few times (and the medal) ? LOL.

Not only that, but you can spread out your run times over days if you want. You can run around the block a few times today, and again tomorrow, etc., until you make your mileage.

I haven't read all the info, but will they just be taking your word that you completed the "course" within pacing requirements? If there's no accounting for that, this is basically just a way to move merch at sixty bucks for a shiny bauble.

Hahah exactly. What not just call it what it is- “Purchase your medals here.”

“Can’t make it to the next Run Disney race? Not much of runner? Now, for only $59, you can receive the actual medal that actual athletes receive for actually competing in the race. Concoct an elaborate fiction for your friends where you dazzle everyone with your racing prowess, and you have the medal to back it up!” It’s not sad; it’s virtual racing!”

The real runners have to pay the $59 too. Makes you wonder who the chump is.

I wish Disney would give awards for eating. “Purchase Your corn dog medal here.” Seriously though, I think that’s an untapped market. That and ride medals. “Ride POTC 5 times today for your limited edition POTC Dubloon.” Sorry.. I’m letting my inner Chapek loose.

"Race through the galaxy on a course of your choosing for the inaugural Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon! Whether you break up your 13.1 miles over multiple days or rack up the mileage all at once, runners will earn a one-of-a-kind, Star Wars-themed medal for their accomplishment. Don't miss out on this Star Wars adventure like no other."

"The Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon lets you run at your own pace, on your own course! This virtual race is the perfect way to get experience running the half marathon distance or train for an upcoming runDisney race from home—on a treadmill, in your neighborhood or any course you choose!"

I would get one commemorating my lobster nacho consumption. A simple golden corn chip with lobster meat cluster.

Ummmm. Lobster Meat Cluster.

When you say you wish they would GIVE awards for those things, don't you mean, CHARGE for awards?

The people who spend thousands to travel, actually train hard, and compete to earn this thing at the parks are the real losers.

When everyone's special, no one is.
Ever notice how the participant trophies are bigger than the championship trophies in AYSO soccer?
