Well, here comes another version of the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD: the original theatrical versions.

Well, some people do like the Ewok Celebration song from 1983 (which was excised from the Special Edition DVDs)…

Now all we need are High Definition and a 6-episode box set to get us to buy it all over yet another time!

When they hit the bargain buckets I may consider a copy, but I'm not shelling out full price.

I'm one of those who thinks the original Ewok celebration music was better.

Eeh, I'm perfectly happy with my special edition DVD set. Personally, I think the new SFX shots make the movie seem more timeless. Plus it covers up some of the really really crappy effects. Plus I really like the new ending to the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi, especially the new music. The old Ewok music just seemed to "happy happy fun fun" music.

I challenge anyone to try to sit thru that thing w/o

1-Fast Forwarding
2-Falling asleep
3-Vomitting

What kind of drugs was Lucas on when he came up with this thing? Bea Arthur? Art Carney?

A must buy here, i have the super doooooper special edition of the comemorative edition of the special edition [/sarcasm] and i guess seeming as i have the cgi one it would be rude not to give lucas even more of my mere student money!

It would be nice i guess to see the origionals, as im only a mere whipper snapper (ok im 21 in august but i was still born after they had all been shown in the cinema!) and it would be nice to see them as they were intended, and not bodged up by lucas and is evil henchman!

I'll probably pick them up at some point. Get Boba Fett's original voice back and have Anakin be the old guy instead of Wooden Christiansen. I mean really, what was that all about? At that point you might as well make the Yoda ghost look more like the CGI Yoda and Obi-Wan change to Ewan MacGregor.:fork:

They're his movies. He can do whatever he wants with them.

ahh but there is a thing called overkill.... i like the dodgy scifi effects of the 70's however :lookaroun but it would be nice to let the movies just age the way origionally.

I think there is a limit to how much you can milk something like starwars.... and alot of generic movie fans like my goodself just get fed up with the X amount of dvds that get re released with an added feature such as dts in ancient hebrew [/sarcasm] or an added feature of a bonous disk ill never watch...

I just detest hayden christiensen to be honest with you also (he is only in it at the end of return of the jedi in the line up of the deceased jedi mind you), so buying an untouched edition with the see-through cockpit would be a godesend :king:

edit: basically what number_6 said!

That is the thing that killed me. If you were going to make the ghost of Anakin young why the old Obi-Wan? Makes no sense, not even sure why he did not realize that. I mean if he wants to alter it, fine I don't like it, but fine. But to alter only one ghost makes no sense at all.

One more thing. I am actually surpised he is releasing the original movies as not only has he altertered and packaged them already, he did it twice. When they re-realeased Star Wars in the movie and then on video two of the changes were the Han/Greedo scene in the Mos Eisley Cantina and the scene with Jaba waiting at the ship. He altered those scenes again a year ago for the DVD release. Why go back now...

Also, I wonder if it really is the original if it is going to say Episode IV - A New Hope as that was not part of the original.

He altered those scenes basically because of negative fan reaction to the Greedo thing, and they redid the CGI Jabba, because the one created in 1997 looked pretty crappy, and not much like the original Jabba.

BTW, about the Ankin ghost thing. Yeah, I really don't like Hayden either, but it does make more sense to replace him in ROTJ. Sure, I objected at it at first, but after seeing Ep. 3 it kinda makes more sense. When you come back in the force, you come back in the version of which you died. Obi Wan died in Alec Guiness form, Yoda died in puppet form, and Anakin died as Hayden form ( when he became darth vader. ) Besides, lets face it, Sabastian Shaw looks nothing like Hayden.

From my understanding Lucas had nothing to do with the creation of the Christmas special other than approving that it could be done. Now he is just wishing the thing would die. Don't count on it ever being officially released.
