Star Tours 3-D??

George Lucas just announced at Showest that he and a few other major directors(Cameron, Rodiriguez, Jackson, and Zemeckis) are going to be doing a gard push for digital projectors that can show their movies in high quality 3-d.

They will be using the 3-D stle used in disney world with the plastic glasses, not the old red and blue 50's style.

With that said, does anyone see it possible that Lucas would try to use the "disney-style" 3-D on the Star Tours update. A motion simulator in 3-D to go along with the movies being released in 3-D in 2007 would make sense to me.

That would make a lot of sense. Now the big hurdle what theme do you go with. Stick with star tours change to pod racing or maybe X-wing flight training?

since they would have to make a new movie anyway I guess they would get away from the Star Tours theme.

Knowing the way Lucas works, he would probably theme it to the prequels. I've always been one to think it wouldn't be pod racing, though. There aren't enough environments in one ride, the way that star tours wanders around. The only way to keep it interesting would be if it were actually a competeive video game style race where you actually had a hand in determining who would win.

Otherwise I would think it would be an extension of the prequels. Star Tours is set in the Original trilogy timeperios, but only the death star battle is lifted form the movies. The concept of the ride is original. I would guess they would do something similar and have an original ship style and plot line that is set within the Prequels somewhere, possibly a transport ship that gets snagged in a clone wars space battle en route ins the same vein as the original ride.

Ride simulators alone make a lot of people sick (including myself). I can tolerate it if I don't watch the screen. But I think adding 3-D to it would be even more nausiating. :hurl:

as I said before regarding Star Tours.. What is wrong with screne technology? Gut the attraction, add a huge IMAX screen and design the seating like a star transporter... The 3D would be an amazing addition to this attraction and the sense of flight (like Soarin) would really add a special novelty to the ride.

I totally agree. I absolutly LOVE star wars but I cant ride that ride. It kinda makes me mad but its my own fault I guess. I agree too that the 3-d thrown in would make it even worse. But also I dont think that making a 3-d attraction like tough to be a bug for example would be the same for star wars/tours.

your idea would sorta be like dollywoods Big Screen simulator i could definitly see 3d added to that. if that is not possible at least change the 80's feel to it

I personally would love to see Star Tours gutted. Simulators to me are very dated attractions. I would rather see a Dinosaur/Indy style ride set in the Star Wars universe.

Oh God, I don't think I can take any more "flight training."
I think it will be pod racing simply for the reason that it would be the easiest thing to fit with the existing technology.

Well from all the hype I'm hearing for the opening battle sequence of Episode III in how technically marvelous it is, that could be an interesting and visually stunning new movie for the attraction...

we (the audience in our 'ships') could volunteer to fight in the clone wars and fly a mission from planet to planet.

Now there's an idea. How does a M:S-style setup sound? I don't mean with the centrifuge, I mean with the role-playing aspect. Each guest could have some part in the attraction--but actually control the outcome of the battle as opposed to pushing buttons and having lights come on. It would be possible, since each simulator would be independent of each other.

People, you make me wonder with the Star Wars theming. How about the episode 2 sequence with Anakin and Obi Won at the begining of the movie "the chase' that Anakin jumps from the craft. That would be a fun sequence to use, as part of the "Star Tours". Remember there was an option to travel some other places. And in the refering part, you could feel Anakin jumping on your spaceship (hey it can be done). And not just ad a 3D aspect but also more sensory like Alien Enconunte. Like the ship brokedown like the Millenium Falcon, and stuff like that.

Sweet!

I agree...I really dislike simulators. They don't feel realistic to me at all. I would prefer a ride that really moves (like Dinosaur like you said), or a fully immersive ride like Soarin'.

Spiderman-ish type star wars attraction perhaps?

That would be an interesting take as well. Then you could have the integration of a Star Wars 3D film as well as some set pieces (with Audio Animatronics figures) based around what environment you were visiting (a secret recon mission to infiltrate and destroy an enemy building?....kind of a fly there, sneak in, interact with some troopers Jedi style [i.e. lightsaber], set your explosive, get out fast before it blows, and end with a short space dogfight with a clone ship).

How about you have to fly into a ground battle to evacuate Jedi. You fly throughthe battle pick up two AA Jedi that would then interact with the pilot in the cockpit. Then you have to flee the planet and pass a Seperatist blockade duringa space battle. Finish with the jump to hyperspace...with stars flying at you in 3-D...and voila. It go on that multiple times a trip.
