Projector lamps will definitely fade with age. If they have a life of 2,000 hours, they should be replaced at around 1,000 hours. Unfortunately the lamps are pretty expensive (like around $400 each), so a lot of folks will just run them to failure, which is bad show.
They're expensive for the average company or individual. $400 for Disney is just four guests through the turnstiles on a single day. I agree, it's just bad show.

When you're dealing with hundreds of projectors across property, I can understand a corporate policy that will tend to save them tens of thousands of dollars a year. Still, totally bad show.

True, but you're also dealing with hundreds of projectors that don't need replacing at the same time. I don't know if they wait until a specific time and replace a whole bunch at once. That could be it, considering they'd likely have to get the same technicians to replace the bulbs in all of the projectors. It could also be that, because there likely aren't a whole bunch of people assigned to projector upkeep, they have to be notified first and then add it to their list, getting to it when they are able. I don't know anything about the inner workings of that department, though I'd hope that priority would be given to vital show elements. It's such a huge company with so many moving parts, I'm sure that the work order has to go through a ton of different people and departments before it even makes it to the technicians.

I had to learn about bureaucracy the hard way when I was at Amazon and working on a project that involved changing just a few words in an internal knowledge database. It took months and had to go through three different departments, with edits made several times before the wording was finally changed. By the time it was finished, my enthusiasm for the project was long gone and I just wanted it finished. That was one of the reasons that I decided that the corporate life was not for me, no matter how much money I was making. I admire folks who are good at it, but the inability to get simple things done without needless complications tended to make me want to throat punch folks.
