Trip Report Spur of the moment 48 hour trip!

Quick background: after having a very difficult 2016/2017 trying to get pregnant, we had our second child (another boy) in November 2017. Our last trip was February 2017, a quick four day trip that saw my wife, my then 5 year old, and my MIL head to the happiest place on earth.

We have a five night trip planned in November at Contemporary, but was getting an itch. Our 6 1/2 year old has been AMAZING with our new five month old. This wasn’t always the case, having a difficult transition into first grade in a new school district, a new house, and a new baby around.

As a reward of sorts for how great he has been (plus to give him some much needed one on one daddy time) last week I booked a cheap flight on spirit to fly into Orlando on Friday and then return home Sunday late morning. This will allow us one evening of swimming and boy time at the resort and all day Saturday at MK.

He has NO idea this is happening. I am dropping him off at school at 7am (before care since we both work) and then randomly showing up at noon to get him. We’re going to drive to the airport and once we get there (since he will definitely pick up on it) I will advise him we’re going to Disney World today!

It was tough to find a last minute property anywhere without spending over $400 a night (I’m a strictly Disney Resort guy the last ten years) and after checking every online site 3-5 times I lucked out with what I imagine to be a last minute cancelation and booked the one room available on Travelocity at Pop Century! While recently our trips have bene Deluxe resorts, we both love Pop Century and could not be happier booking it for around $350 all in for two nights.

Plans are as follows:

- Land at MCO 5pm on Friday.
- get to POP around 7pm and grab some food and if warm enough hit the pool.
- breakfast onsite Saturday and head over to MK for rope drop.
- lucked out and was able to get fast passes between 11am and 3pm to Buzz (he loves toy story), Big Thunder, and 7 Dwarves Mine Train. Figure of get their at drop even on a Saturday we’ll be able To get on 2-3 rides before too busy, then use FP
- somehow scored 1pm lunch reservations at Be Our Guest, so looking forward to that.
- after last FP book another for the evening and go back to resort for hour relax in pool and quick shower/cleanup.
- back to park for more rides, fireworks, and quick dinner eats.
- park is open until midnight, figure we will hang until 1030-11ish.
- back to POP and 9am flight the next day.

I will need a vacation after this trip but his face and reaction will be worth every penny spent.

Any suggestions from those who have been on a quick trip like this? Anything I am forgetting?

Sounds amazing! Just enjoy your time together and be realistic with the pace. Don't feel obligated to go-go-go just because it's a short trip; you'll be back soon.

P.S. My little brother and I are also six years apart, and we've always been close. Now I'm 29 and he's 23 and we are very close friends who text/talk pretty much every day even though we live 1600 miles apart.

I agree with the sentiments of the other replies

With only 1 day and 1 park you would be tempted to go all out (rope drop to closing) but with a 6.5 year old and a baby you might have to scale it back

Better a partial memorable day than a long / stressful day that might spoil the next trip

Just my two cents

Have fun

AMJT agree on slower pace, that’s why we’re gonna head back midday to relax. Baby and wife staying home though, just me and my best buddy. Looking forward to time just us two.

My daughter and son are 6 years apart, too. I hope they will grow up to be close friends (they actually usually get along now and they're 8 and 2).
