Spring CP '06

Hi Everyone,

I have been interested in doing the CP for a very long time now. And the time I would like to do it is my junior spring semester of college (next spring). But I was planning on applying and going to the presentation this winter just so I can get a feel of things, before I officially apply.

My question is; will disney frown upon this?? I don't want to get accepted and then have to turn it down, but then reapply for the next session.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Mandy

You can go to the presentation and just see what it is about. I dont think you have to apply, but if you do the online thing its not a guarentee unless you sign up and go to an interview, there were a few ppl I knew that showed up at the presentation but then couldnt do the program after learning a few things.

You certainly don't have to apply the first time unless you want to go through the interview process for practice. As for applying and then re-applying, I don't think Disney frowns upon this at all. They understand that things come up and that parents don't always agree with the idea of taking off a semester. I applied a total of 3 times and was accepted each time. Unfortunately, my parents wouldn't let me go while I was still in school (they threatened to cut off my funds). They wanted me to finish and go the semester after I graduated. The first two times I applied, I was hoping to talk my parents into it with my acceptance. But it didn't happen. I finally went Spring Advantage 2004 and had a blast, minus my bad housing situation. I know another person on these boards (DisneyJill) had the same situation as me, with the parents and applying excessively. She ended up going at the same time I did.

So overall, I think you should be fine with Disney if you want to interview and then decline their offer. I would just not tell them that this is a dry run for you. Just go into the "fake" interview with all intentions of getting accepted to the program. Maybe you'll get a great role and end up going early! Anyway, I've rambled on enough. Good luck with everything!!!

Yes, to make sure it isnt a problem with your parents, I had to beg and plee with mine, bring your parents along to see what its about. My mom loved it while my dad didnt, we later figured out that he didnt want his little girl to go away.

While we have you alumnus' attention:

Does Disney frown upon the post-graduate C.P./A.I. applicants at all? (I mean the people who apply while they are still in college, but plan to take their role the semester after they graduate).

I am afraid Disney will turn me down [for an A.I.] simply because they would rather take a person IN college rather than out of college (perhaps because of "overqualification"?).

Thanks, guys/gals.

Thank you everyone for all your helpful information...It is really helpful.

To respond to your posts, my parents are 100% okay with this. They think it would be such an awesome experience. I really want to go down to perform(since I go to school for dance), but I understand that may be kinda difficult. My mom even worked at the contemporary in '74 and she works for the Disney Store.

I also have no intentions of telling disney what I am doing. lol. I really want this oppurtinity. I really hope I get accepted!!!

I agree with the other alumni responses, just go to the presentation this spring and see what it is all about, talk to the recruiter and alumni, if there are any around. The first time I interviewed, I got accepted and then declined for school reasons, went back the next semester and interviewed got accepted and went for Spring '04. The second time I went, the recruiter remembered me from the first time and was very happy to see how interested I was in the program.

They certainly don't frown upon it; they actually encourage it. They definitely understand people want to finish school before leaving for a semester. I did the regular CP after I graduated. Also I would suggest to you, instead of going for an non Alumni AI, do the regular CP and apply for an AI while you're down there. They have an AI fair and then all the current CPs can apply for them. It will give you more options if you're interested. I know you have your heart set on things already, but it's always another option.

Thanks for the reply, Beth.

I just don't think I could support my wife and myself on a CP paycheck nor would I feel comfortable working a CP job with a bachelor's degree.

But I definently will toss it on the plate to consider.

I just wanted to point out that if you do go though the interview and get accepted but are not going, Make sure you OFFCIALY decline your offer on the College Program website. If you do not do this, you may be "frowned" upon next time.

But other then that, you should have no problem reapplying the next time.
