Sponsors in the Park

I was listening to a Disneyland Forever cd I have and they mention Pepsi and Fritos corn chips. Do you guys know if Pepsi was ever in the Parks at WDW? My earliest memory is in the early 90's and I know it was coke then. I thought it would be fun if we could list sponsors you can remember in the park. For some reason I can remember one of the eateries in Adventureland sponsored by Kikkoman's soy sauce. Does anyone remember this? Can't wait to hear what guys have to say.

I remember Kikkoman being at a Disney park too, though I can't remember if it was DL or WDW. Did they sponsor the restaurant in China at Epcot? I seem to recall putting extra soy sauce on some fried rice merely because I had Kikkoman "on the brain."

Heh, I guess the sponsorship worked!

Pepsi...

If Frito-Lay had anything to do with WDW, than so did Pepsi. Pepsi owns the Frito-Lay brand along with Quaker foods. If you look up Pepsi on any stock quote you can see all of the brands under their "umbrella". The stock symbol for Pepsi is PEP.

We are coke drinkers, but Pepsi shareholders.

Pepsi was the original sponsor of “It's a Small World” at the 1964 Worlds Fair. Pepsi was also the original sponsor of the Country Bear Jamboree. In fact Henry's quote "and we'll all enjoy the show, cause we got a lot to give!" is a reference to Pepsi's 1969-1973 ad slogan "You've go a lot to live, Pepsi's got a lot to give!"

Here is an excerpt from a Disney Company memo concerning the opening of the WDW Magic Kingdom in 1971:

PEPSI-COLA AND FRITOS
Because they are the same company, PepsiCo, they have the joint sponsorship of the Bear Band. In conjunction with the show, there is an eating facility which will consist of the Mile Long Bar and Pecos Café. Their products will be served exclusively in these locations. In addition to Pepsi-Cola, Diet Pepsi, and Teem, they will also have their flavor line available. Fritos will dominate the snack food area with corn chips, potato chips and onion rings. Both brands will be served throughout the Park.

To Expand on Speck's post;

"The Adventureland Veranda opened with the park but had no sponsor until October 1977, when soy-sauce giant Kikkoman stepped into what seemed a custom-built void. In conjunction with this sponsor, the establishment set forth some of the park's most eclectic food offerings. The Teriyaki Burger, for example, was a delightfully bland tasting slab of semi-beef stuffed in a bun with a slice of pineapple. The Shrimp Fried Rice with Egg Roll or South Seas Fruit Salad were similarly fresh and appetizing choices for the discerning explorer's palate. Years before the park ever experimented with waffle fries, the Veranda served the thinnest, soggiest french fries in the world. Premium stuff. But high above the rest, at least in my esteemed opinion, was the gastronomically reprehensible Sweet and Sour Hot Dog. This delicacy, unfortunately, did not survive menu changes during the restaurant's later years."

Pepsi also sponsored the Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland. Fritos had Casa de Fritos, a Mexican resturant, in Frontierland. Coke had it's own Refreshment Corner on Main Street in Disneyland as well in addition to sponsoring the long-gone Tomorrowland Terrace Stage. Coke now sponsors the Moonliner at Disneyland's Tommorowland.

Being one of the older folks here, I can remember COP being sponsored by Monsanto (Chemicals), and If You Had Wings sponsored by Eastern Airlines, the first "Official" airline of WDW. This had to be mid to late 1970's, pre-EPCOT era.

I know GE sponsored the CoP during the "Now is the Time" years.....

Monsanto sponsored the "Home of the Future", and later Adventure through Innerspace (the first Disney Omni-mover) at Disneyland

CoP was never sponsored by Monsanto. Why would Monsanto sponsor a ride to promote electricity? Speck is right. GE was the only sponsor for CoP.

I thought that Unicef was the first sponsor of ITs a sw? Pepsi and coke in the park at the same time. In today's world can you imagine it.
The original title was "It's a Small World - A Salute to UNICEF" but the attraction was sponsored by Pepsi.

I don't believe there is official airline right now? Am I right? I still can't imagine being in Fantasyland and getting a Pepsi, then walk yards away unto Main Street to get a coke. I wonder if that is what started the whole cola wars beef. :slurp: Thanks for the site of sponsors.
