Split stays with MB

Are they any different than split stays before Magic Bands? Does the one Magic Band recognize both parts of your stay? Do you have to link the stays somehow? I have a trip booked, but depending on how air fare shakes out, we may fly in one night earlier and stay at a value resort before moving to the moderate for the rest of our stay. I'm a bit confused about the whole process and trying to figure it out. Thanks!

You will get bands for both stays (unless you decline.) Once you are checked out of resort #1, you can use the same band for resort #2 if you wish; remember a band "points" to your MDE account, nothing is "stored" on the band.

I have done split stays at my DVC before and after my cruises. That gives my family of four a lot of bands. I've accidentally taken the previous trip band and they worked just fine. As they said, they are linked to MDE. Also, the CM at the desk will usually double check it with the scanner just to be on the safe side to assure it is still functioning.

I was curious too. Thanks for helping.

We will hopefully be in the same room, but have 3 reservations (in order to secure the discount). One night, two nights, one night.

I did my first split stay on my last trip. I had 2 magic bands (at the last minute I added a day onto the beginning of my trip and stayed at a different resort for just that one night…..they didn't want to cancel out my first reservation so they just gave me a separate magic band for that one day).

I checked out of POR, left my luggage with the bellhops to be transferred to POP, then got right on the bus to Epcot.
I learned that hard way that I should have gone to POP and checked in first, because when I got to Epcot that second magic band wasn't yet activated. I had to go to guest services and they took care of it. Just an FYI, not sure if this applies to you or not, but it may help someone else out in the future!!

Confirming what everyone else has said. Just did a split stay (CSR and POFQ) back in October. You can do online check in for each, and I opted into the text messaging. About 3pm that afternoon, I got a message while at Epcot saying our room was ready (and the room number). The magic band worked fine when we got to POFQ.

One note, you do need to drop your luggage off at the bell hop stand the day you switch. Tell them you are moving to another resort, and they will transport it. It may be later that evening, though. Once you get to the new hotel, you can either go to the bell stand or just call them from your room. They'll bring it up. Just make sure you get everything you need, since you won't have access to your luggage all day.

All in all, a pretty easy process!

It may not have been the Band that was the problem (since the Band is just a pointer to your MDE profile), but rather if your second reservation was a *package* reservation that included park tickets or a dining plan, those aspects of the package generally aren't activated until you check into the resort they're associated with.

This problem has been rendered slightly moot by the new direct-to-room online checkin. In that instance all aspects of your package are activated at the start of the business day, you can bypass the checkin desk and you're tested your room number when it's ready.

Gotcha. I know I did online check in for POR but I don't remember if I did it with POP or not. I thought I did, but maybe not. In any event, your explanation makes sense, thank you!!
