"Split" Stay at Same Resort -- Will We Have to Check In Twice?

Has anybody else had a split stay at the same resort and same room category, where you didn't change rooms? Did you have to check in more than once?

Here's the background: in order to be eligible for free dining for most of our upcoming trip, we had to split our reservation into two: (1) a one-night, room-only at CBR (preferred room), followed by; (2) a 6-night MYW package at CBR (again, preferred room) with 8-day parkhoppers and free dining.

Both reservations are for the same resort and room category, so I'll be logging a request to stay in the same room for both, and I'm assuming they'll let us. (Keeping us in the same room means one less room to clean, and we're arriving during a lower-crowd time of year.) If we've checked in online for both reservations, and if we've stopped at the front desk on our arrival day to complete/confirm arrangements in person, will we have to go through the charade of returning to the front desk on our second day to "check out" and then "check back in" to the same room?

Call Disney Reservations - or tell your travel agent - to make a note on both reservations (linking them) and they will keep you in the same room.

You usually do need to check in for the second reservation, but I would ask when you check in for the first one.

I did this at SSRS, and a stop at the front desk was required for us. Also, one thing to note, is that at the end of the first stay, your dining credits go away, and you can't access your "2nd" stay pool of credits until after you check in. Just make sure you have all credits (including snacks) used before you check in the 2nd time.

Yes, you will have to check out and check back in again, even if Disney travel has linked the two reservations. Unless you want Disney, while you are at a park, to pack up your belongs and take them to bell services...and when you get back to your room, your MB no longer works. ;)

We did this at AKL. We were told to call the front desk in the morning of the switch in reservations. They handled it all be phone in a couple of minutes.

Really? GF made me go to the front desk, to check that my MB would work. But I did get a phone call reminding me to check out/check back in the day before.

I'm in the same situation. I wanted the free dining, I booked 10 days, and after checking air fare, I found a deal if we arrived a day early. So I have a one night reservation + 10 days package. I called and the CM put a "note" in the two reservations asking to stay in the same room, so I hope we'll just have to check out/in at the desk and not actually keep our luggage packed and loose park time for this :(

Someone on a forum (who seemed to work at Disney) told me to call again closer to my trip date and ask the CM to contact "guest service" and they might be able to extend my package, but a regular CM wouldn't be able to. From what I understood, a regular CM can only book a # of days package (so you whole 7 days would have to be available) but a guest service person would see availability around your trip... I've not givin up, and I'll try to call again in the next few days since my 30 days (cancelation) is this week end. If someone cancel I might be able to change my 1+10 days to a full 11 days! :)

You would need to go through the check in/out process. However, if you have a valid CC on file, they should be able to automagically check you out of your room like when you were leaving for good. And you could in theory do on-line check in for the second stay, avoiding the need to go to the desk. However, I would want to actually work with a CM to make sure that yes, you were kept in the same room rather than running into issues later.

Another thing, since you have free dining the second part of your trip, it might make sense (it did for us) to use the Deluxe Dining plan for the first night. That allowed us to use some of the "Free" credits for 2 credit service meals. Still saved us money over the regular price meals with the free dining (with kids though under 10)

Thank you for the tip (you must have had some amazing meals!), although I'm afraid that would not make sense in our situation. Our only meal on arrival day is dinner at Skipper Canteen (with an estimated cost of $150-$200 for the 5 of us out of pocket, compared with $500 for the deluxe dining plan for the same 5 people - 4 over 10 and one under - for a day), nor do we want to use our "free" dining credits on a lot of 2-credit TS meals, since that would require us to buy supplemental meals out of pocket. Because more than half of our free dining "savings" were already subsumed up by the additional one-night room charge and the upgrades we had to make to our room and tickets to be eligible for it (although those upgrades, like a preferred room and parkhoppers, do add value to our package that we will certainly use and appreciate), we could very quickly lose the remaining savings to supplemental food costs, if we did more than one 2-credit meal. :)

I have had two reservations in the same hotel. I mentioned it upon checking and the CM told me I just had to come down to check out and in. It took about 5 minutes and I went on with my day.

Thank you for your response! Just a quick question: did you get invoiced at the end of each part of your split stay, or did they combine all of your charges and give you just one bill at the end?
